Butler University Staff Assembly Meeting Minutes

Tyler Johnston, Chair, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

• Featured Department – Registration & Records

A ticket was selected for the special door prize; a gift bag full of hand sanitizer was awarded to Jonathan Small.

Committee Reports

Staff Development – Mary Azar Callahan announced they now have a full committee and will meet for the first time in January.

Employment Affairs – Dana Ohren reported the directory is almost finished and will be available to all staff. The suggestion boxes have a log with the comments and responses. The Campus Sweep will focus on planting around the campus and cleaning activities.

Nominations & Elections – Patti Colip reported that this committee will meet in January to work on the new election.

Activities & Socials – Sandy Schleef announced that Cheryl Jensen will have a late January Travel Network session featuring What to Do in Indiana. Relay for Life will be April 3 and 4. Leslie Renner announced that Angel Tree collected 90 presents.

Faculty Relations – Bob Marcus reported that he is continuing the ‘Who’s That’ program and would like a representative from each division to collect profiles. The CBA student survey is complete and the students are presenting in class.

Communications – Marsha Endre reported that they are working on the HUB and Staff Assembly website.

New Business

Military Leave Policy – Lisa Walton presented an update on the Federal Military Leave Policy. This law started during the Gulf War and protects the job of deployed personnel for a period of 5 years. It covers all full and part time U.S. employees. The Family Medical Leave Act allows a family member to take up to 26 weeks off to care for an injured military person.

Green Tip – Coco Acosta and Tim Downs provided information about Recycle Mania.

Ambassadors for Children – Aubrey Villines from the student group Ambassadors for Children provided a presentation.

Announcements

One new staff members were introduced and welcomed to Butler.

The next Staff Assembly meeting will be on Wednesday, January 21, 2009.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:00pm.
