Butler University Staff Assembly Meeting Minutes

(Attendance – Approximately 95)
Andy Ryan, Chair, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.
Guest Speakers
Beth Alexander, Assistant to the Dean of Student Affairs, informed the Assembly the volunteer opportunities for Commencement on May 10. The first 50 employees who volunteer to work at Commencement from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. will receive a half day off of work. There will be a training session and lunch on Thursday, May 8 for all volunteers.
Michelle Atterson, Director of Student Disabilities, gave a presentation on studentsÕ disabilities being a natural part of the human development and that is also part of our campus diversity. She then showed a video titled ÒThe 10 Commandments of Communicating with People with Disabilities.Ó
Dick Hamm, Director of Housekeeping, informed the Assembly about the $25,000 grant that Butler University had received from the Indiana Department of Environmental Mgt., IDEM. These monies have enabled us to increase and update the interior recycle stations through out the campus. For more detailed information on other purchases from the grant money, please see Attachment 1 from DickÕs presentation. Dick also talked about the Recyclemania competition among college and university recycling programs in the United States that Butler has participated in.
Old Business
Andy reviewed the results of the Staff Survey using the top and bottom three answers for the three different categories: about your job, about your supervisor, about Butler as an employer. See Attachment 2 for details.
New Business
There will be department training for University Preparedness sometime during April.
The election for the new Executive Committee members will be held in April.
The second Executive Committee meeting of each month will include in open forum from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Anyone is welcome to come who may have suggestions or concerns they would like to share with the committee.
There will be a Staff Assembly meeting scheduled for May, June, and August.
Committee Reports
Activities & Socials – Cheryl Jensen announced there will be a plant swap at the April meeting.
Faculty Relations – Bob Marcus reported the ÒWhoÕs THAT?Ó program is coming along fine with over 50 faculty and staff on it. The Faculty Relations committee still needs one new member.
Three new staff members were introduced and welcomed to Butler. Door prize drawings were held at the conclusion of the meeting.
The next Staff Assembly meeting will be on Wednesday, April 16, 2008.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
