STAFF ASSEMBLY NEEDS YOUR HELP

Why me?

We each offer unique skills, fresh ideas and different points-of-view from which our committees can benefit.  We want your input.  Plus, volunteering for a committee gives you an outlet for things you are good at but may not have a chance to do in your work.  ItÕs a great way to meet people from other offices and we have fun interacting and brainstorming!

Tell me what the Staff Assembly committees actually do?

Staff AssemblyÕs six standing committees work to represent the needs and interests of ButlerÕs staff and communicate that information to the campus community.  The committees do everything from supporting staffÕs professional growth and relationship building to planning social activities, workshops and luncheons, to supporting the assemblyÕs computer and communication needs.

How can I get involved in one of the committees?

Contact a committee convener – or anyone on the executive committee and let someone know of your interest.  If you have an interest in a committee doesnÕt have a vacancy at the time, weÕll hang on to your information in the event that a space becomes available.

THE COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE is responsible for updating and maintaining the Staff Assembly website and HUB, to promote various activities via the assemblyÕs bulletin board outside HR and the Butler Digest, and to generally streamline the communication process between the Assembly and the staff at Butler.  Some ongoing projects include monitoring the suggestion boxes on campus, and assisting with the ÒThank YouÓ Program, ÒWhoÕs THAT?Ó and Spanish translations.  New members are needed to help in the HUB upkeep, to help proof the sites, and to help bring back the ÒComings and GoingsÓ News & Agenda newsletters.

The Communications Committee has an immediate need for a new convener, who calls meetings, assigns tasks as needed, and communicates with both the Executive Committee and the staff at monthly meetings.  The current convener will remain on the committee.

THE EMPLOYMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE goal is to enhance the employment environment for staff members and to explore ways to make Butler a wonderful place to work.  Based on input from staff, the Committee created the Top Dawg Award and Campus Sweep, and has made policy recommendations (flex-time; job share, etc.).  The committee meets once a month.  There may be an additional time commitment on occasion (reviewing policies, researching employment practices at other colleges and universities, assisting in coordination of Campus Sweep, etc.)

THE FACULTY RELATIONS COMMITTEE serves to monitor and enhance relations between staff and faculty.  This includes, but is not limited to, programming, events, surveys, projects such as ÒWhoÕs THAT?Ó or ÒFaculty WelcomeÓ, etc.

THE NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS COMMITTEE oversees the election process that not only selects the officers of Staff Assembly, but also the members of the executive committee.  This committee first collects nominations for the executive committee and its officers, than conducts elections annually in accordance with the Staff Assembly Bylaws.

THE STAFF DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE works with various groups on campus to enhance development opportunities for staff members and to look for ways to increase staff interest and participation pertaining to staff development.  Last spring the committee surveyed the staff to identify interests and needs, which led to workshops on managing multiple priorities, the services and benefits through the Employee Assistance Program, and stress management through relaxation and deep breathing.
