Join a Committee
Staff Assembly has six standing committees which are involved in
various aspects of staff life. Each committee has a
convener and up to seven members. Some of our
committees need additional members. If you are interested in
joining any one of the following committees, please contact staff-assembly@butler.edu.
- Employment Affairs
- Personal & Professional Development
- Communications
- Faculty Relations
- Nominations & Elections
- Activities & Socials
Why me?
We each offer unique skills, fresh ideas and different
points-of-view from which our committees can benefit. We want your
input. Plus, volunteering for a committee gives you an outlet for
things you are good at but may not have a chance to do in your
work. It's a great way to meet people from other offices and we
have fun interacting and brainstorming!
Tell me what the Staff Assembly committees actually do?
Staff Assembly's six standing committees work to represent the
needs and interests of Butler's staff and communicate that
information to the campus community. The committees do everything
from supporting staff's professional growth and relationship
building to planning social activities, workshops and luncheons, to
supporting the assembly's computer and communication needs.
How can I get involved in one of the committees?
Contact anyone on the Executive Committee and let them know
of your interest. If you have an interest in a committee that
doesn't have a vacancy at that time, we'll hang on to your
information in the event that a space becomes available.
The Committees
Activities and Socials
The Activities and Social Committee provides staff with
opportunities to participate in enjoyable activities and events and
to share ideas, experiences and knowledge with other Butler staff,
faculty and students.
Activities and Events held by the Activities and Social
Committee:
- Spring Sports Spectacular Staff Team
- Angel Tree
- Relay for Life Staff Team
- Tailgate With the Dawgs
- Butler Travel Network
- Softball League
- Butler Perks and Butler Events brochures
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee is responsible for updating and
maintaining the Staff Assembly website and HUB, to promote various
activities via the assembly's bulletin board outside HR and the
Butler Digest, and to generally streamline the communication
process between the Assembly and the staff at Butler.
Employment Affairs Committee
The Employment Affairs Committee goal is to enhance the
employment environment for staff members and to explore ways to
make Butler a wonderful place to work. Based on input from staff,
the Committee created the Top Dawg Award and Campus Sweep, and has
made policy recommendations (flex-time; job share, etc.). The
committee meets once a month. There may be an additional time
commitment on occasion (reviewing policies, researching employment
practices at other colleges and universities, assisting in
coordination of Campus Sweep, etc.)
Faculty Relations Committee
The Faculty Relations Committee serves to monitor and enhance
relations between staff and faculty. This includes, but is not
limited to, programming, events, surveys, projects such as "Who's
THAT?" or "Faculty Welcome", etc.
Nominations and Elections Committee
The Nominations and Elections Committee oversees the election
process that not only selects the officers of Staff Assembly, but
also the members of the executive committee. This committee first
collects nominations for the executive committee and its officers,
than conducts elections annually in accordance with the Staff
Assembly Bylaws.
Personal & Professional Development Committee
The Personal & Professional Development Committee works with
various groups on campus to enhance development opportunities for
staff members and to look for ways to increase staff interest and
participation pertaining to staff development.
