Spring 2014 Tryout Skill Requirements

For new candidates, experience isn't necessary, we are looking for potential. We are looking for good "all-around" cheerleaders at Butler who can be strong in all areas.

Females:

Tumbling:  (Females must perform a minimum of a standing back handspring to be considered)

  • Standing Back handspring**
  • Standing Back handspring back tuck
  • Standing Back tuck
  • 2 Running tumbling passes of choice (Passes must be different.)

ALL FEMALES ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO PERFORM A TUCK IN EITHER STANDING OR RUNNING TUMBLING!

Jumps:

  • Toe-touch & Optional Jump (other than a toe-touch)
  • Jumps may be performed with a back handspring or tuck connected
  • Double or Triple jump combinations may also be performed

Co-ed Partner Stunts (All Females):

  • Purdue-up to shoulder stand
  • Toss & Walk-in Chair
  • Toss to Hands and/or Optional Stunt (if you have one)

Returning Co-ed Flyers: Candidates must demonstrate a Toss or walk-in hands, extension, and/or liberty.

All-Girl Stunts: Determined by your past experience as a base, flyer, or back spot, Stunt groups will be put together and basic stunts will be performed for evaluation.

Extensions and Liberties will be evaluated the same for females whether the candidate is flying or basing.  Female candidates can select to be evaluated as a base, back or flyer only.  Since we utilize all-girl stunting at Butler, we will be looking very strongly at stunting roles!!  If you are versatile, it will help you.

Motions: Candidates will learn the Fight Song, Band Chant, and 3 sidelines that will be performed and evaluated in small groups. A Standing BHS or Tuck is at the end of the Fight Song.

Males:

Tumbling: If you have it, we'd like to see it.  You also must be willing to work on it during the season.

Co-ed Partner Stunts: Same as females, with addition of double-based extension cradle. (Prior stunting experience isn't necessary.  We are looking for potential and desire to become a strong, safe lifter.)

Returning Males: Must demonstrate a Toss or walk-in hands & extension.
