Stuart Glennan is Professor of Philosophy and Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  Glennan received his B.A. in mathematics and philosophy from Yale University and his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Chicago.  A philosopher of science, Glennan's research has primarily focused on ideas of mechanism, causality and explanation across the sciences, but especially in biology and psychology. He coordinates the Woods Lectures on the Sciences and Mathematics and was founding director of Butler's Science, Technology and Society Program.

Carol Reeves, Professor of English, studies the language and communication of science.  She has published articles about the language of AIDS, Mad Cow Disease, and is currently investigating environmental communication.  Her book, The Language of Science, was published in 2005.  Her STS courses include AIDS and Society; The Rhetoric of Science; Professional Writing about the Environment; Professional Writing about Health.  She loves to see STS majors taking what they are learning in their classes into the community to help solve problems.

Travis Ryan is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences.  His background is in evolutionary ecology and conservation biology. His main focus has been on the turtle assemblage residing in the Central Canal and in retention ponds throughout urban and rural Indianapolis.  He has collaborated with students and other Butler faculty to investigate the distribution of squirrel leaf nests in residential areas and the occurrence of window strike mortalities in birds on and near the Butler University campus.  He helped found the Center for Urban Ecology, and remains engaged with the life of the CUE as part of the internal advisory group.

Jon is a professor of computer science and software engineering.
He received his PhD in computer science, and his MA in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Jon's research is on algorithms for problems in number theory.
He also has published on using writing in computer science courses, and on Butler's Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) course with Panos Linos.

Priscilla Ryder is a faculty member in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Butler University.  She teaches courses in public health, community health, and research methods.   She received a PhD from the Epidemiology of Aging program at in the medical school of the University of Maryland, Baltimore.  She also earned an M.P.H. degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California at Berkeley's School of Public Health.. Ryder's research focuses on the physical and psychosocial environmental determinants of health disparities in urban adults; health effects of discrimination, stigma, and marginalization; and health status, service utilization and quality of life in underserved populations.

Robert is a professor of microeconomics, public sector economics and environmental economics. Robert has published a variety of academic articles and presented at several conferences on different economic issues. Craig received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in political science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his B.A. in philosophy at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.  He served as a Fulbright Scholar in Nicaragua, once to help establish a graduate program in Culture of Peace Studies and a second time to train university students and indigenous and afro-descendant community leaders in community mediation. Craig enjoys taking students on short-term study trips to Cuba and Nicaragua, and most recently led the first Butler Semester in Latin America under the auspices of Butler's Global Adventures in the Liberal Arts (GALA) program.  An Associate Professor of Political Science, he teaches courses on Latin America, the Earth Charter and Community Mediation.

Robin is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Butler University. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from UC Berkeley, an MA in Political Studies from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and a BA in Public Policy Studies from Duke University. Dr. Turner's research focuses on the relationship between people, the state, and natural resources in Southern Africa. Teaching areas include African studies, tourism studies, research methods, and political economy.

Marjorie Hennessy is the program manager for the Center for Urban Ecology(CUE) at Butler.  She has a background in ecology and landscape architecture, and prior to coming to the CUE worked for environmental consulting firms in Florida, and architecture and engineering firms in Florida and Montana. Marjorie is interested in sustainable land use practices, management, and planning.  Marjorie also teaches the environmental practicum course. The practicum works with a local client every semester to resolve an issue of ecological importance in Indianapolis. The course incorporates a collaborative process, is applicable in a meaningful way, promotes professionalism and builds student confidence. Tim received his Ph.D. in 2006 from the University of Georgia where he evaluated the use of vegetated roofs for urban ecosystem remediation. As a post-doc and faculty member in the River Basin Center at Odum School of Ecology at UGA his work focused on the intersection between urbanization and environmental management through studies of designer ecosystems, sustainable development, environmental policy, and climate change impacts on coastal areas. As the first director of the CUE, Tim explores opportunities to improve urban ecological conditions through public outreach, student engagement, innovative project development, and research.

R. Brian Giesler is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology.  He earned his PhD in social psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, served as a post-doctoral fellow at the Baylor College of Medicine and Houston VA Medical Center, and later became a research scientist at the Indiana University Cancer Center, before coming to Butler University.  He teaches Introductory Psychology, Social Psychology, Human Sexuality, Statistics and Health Psychology.  He and the undergraduates in his lab collaborate on research addressing: 1) identifying and explaining the connection between religiosity/spirituality and health; 2) how people adopt health-related goals and the conscious and non-conscious processes that promote successful goal pursuit.
