Supplemental Grant Request Guidelines
The maximum grant award of $6,000 may be supplemented with an
additional $9,000 up to a total award of $15,000. These
general guidelines apply to decisions about the Supplemental Grant
requests:
- Supplemental requests may be used for additional equipment,
materials and supplies and other justifiable expenses. They may not
be used for research stipends.
- Grant requests must advance specific professional development
goals for the faculty member making the
application.
- The grant requested must have a clear and direct connection to
the faculty member's professional development and to his or her
work at the University.
- In the attempt to extend support to as many worthy projects as
possible, funding awarded to an individual supplemental grant
proposal is usually less than the full amount requested;
- On the Budget Form in the Supplemental request section, explain
why each of the items on the budget page is needed to accomplish
the proposed research
- Equipment: Equipment is defined as a
single item, a multiple-purchase "system" or a "fabrication" with a
useful life of more than one year and a unit cost of at least
$5,000. A "system" can be made up of many items that
must interact with each other and, when added up, total $5K or
more. A fabrication is just like a system except it cannot provide
useful results right away. (Example: We plan to purchase
additional computer nodes at a cost of $3000 each (plus shipping),
and are needed for the intensive computing we plan to do.)
- Materials and Supplies: Examples of
materials and supplies include, but are not limited to, office
supplies, software, educational and classroom material and
supplies, reference books (non library), laboratory and
chemical supplies, small tools, safety supplies (non capital),
maintenance and repair supplies, maintenance contracts and service
agreements, printing supplies, photo supplies, film developing,
copier/reproduction-supplies, paper, other print and copy
supplies
- Supplementary Docs - Include any additional
documents the PI feels are necessary for this request.
