Student Privacy and ID Numbers
Privacy Rights
A student directory of names and addresses is published soon
after the beginning of the fall semester. Names and local telephone
numbers of all students are available on the Butler Internet
homepage. If you wish to prevent the release of such directory
information, you can do so by completing a form, which is available
in the Office of Registration and Records, within 10 days of the
first class day. The full text on the privacy rights of students is
contained in the student handbook, which is available in the
student affairs office.
Student Identification Numbers
Butler University uses a computer assigned number for the
student identifier. New or returning students automatically will
receive this number when they are admitted. Student numbers for all
other students will remain the same.
The social security number will be a secondary identifier for
all students. In accordance with federal and state law, you have
the right to refuse disclosure of this number.
