Registration Holds
Please be aware that holds may be placed on a student's records
each semester to serve as a reminder to complete important
procedures or provide important information to the university.
These holds may prevent a student from registering for next
semester's classes until the outstanding task is completed. The
information below will provide an explanation regarding why a hold
was placed and who a student should contact for removal.
Accept Financial Responsibility
This hold is placed on all students records each semester. The
Acceptance of Financial Responsibility statement outlines a
student's responsibility for paying all expenses in addition to the
penalties that may be incurred by the student if the expenses are
not paid in a timely manner. This hold is automatically released
when the student reads and accepts the terms and conditions of the
financial responsibility statement in his/her MyButler account.
Advising Hold
This hold is placed on every student's records
each semester to ensure that each student meets in person with
his/her academic advisor. This hold indicates that a student has
not yet met with an academic advisor to discuss enrollment in
courses for the following semester. A student must schedule an
appointment to meet with his/her academic advisor in order to have
the hold removed.
Department Requested Hold
This hold indicates that some action is required with a
student's academic department; it has been placed on the student's
records at the request of the department and will indicate what
action must take place for the hold to be removed. A student can
obtain information on how to have the hold removed by checking with
his/her academic department.
Entrance Loan Counseling
This hold indicates that a student needs to complete a Perkins
Loan Entrance form. Information on how to have the hold removed can
be obtained by visiting the Office of Student Accounts, Jordan
Hall, Room 102.
Health Center
This hold indicates that required health information is missing
from the Health Center files. Information on how to have the hold
removed can be obtained by visiting the Health Center in the Health
and Recreation Complex (HRC).
Loan
This hold indicates that a student needs to complete a Perkins
Loan Exit form. Information on how to have the hold removed can be
obtained by visiting the Office of Student Accounts, Jordan Hall,
Room 102.
Returned Check
This hold indicates that a student has an outstanding returned
check. Information on how to have the hold removed can be obtained
by visiting the Office of Student Accounts, Jordan Hall, Room
102.
Student Affairs
This hold indicates that a student is facing disciplinary action
from Student Affairs, has an incomplete sanction or pending case,
or has been suspended from the institution. Information on how to
have the hold removed can be obtained by visiting the Office of
Student Affairs, Atherton Union, Room 200.
Student Financial Hold All
This hold indicates a current or prior outstanding balance.
Information on how to have the hold removed can be obtained by
visiting the Office of Student Accounts, Jordan Hall Room 102.
Verify Local Address
This hold indicates that a student needs to verify his/her local
address. A student can do so by visiting My.Butler.edu. Once a student
verifies his/her local address the hold will automatically be
released from the record.
In addition to holds, there are also positive service
indicators which may be placed on a student's records. These
service indicators are simply a way for the university to flag a
record for administrative purposes. They do not prevent a student
from registering for courses and do not require any
action.
