Final Examinations

All final examinations must be given on the scheduled date and at the scheduled time. The dates and times of all final examinations are published on the Registration and Records website so that a student can know at the time of enrollment what the final examination schedule will be. No official provision exists for arranging a special examination to accommodate a student with a heavy concentration of examinations on a single day. Wherever possible, therefore, a student wishing to avoid such concentration should consult the final examination schedule before registering and plan accordingly.

Applied music examinations are scheduled for students by the chairperson of the School of Music in the Jordan College of the Arts. The schedule is posted on the main bulletin board in the lobby of Lilly Hall approximately two weeks before examinations begin.

If a student is unable to take a final examination for reasons beyond the student's control, the instructor should be informed immediately so appropriate arrangements can be made. If convinced that circumstances warrant it, an instructor may administer a make-up examination to a student who is unable to take the final examination on the scheduled date. No instructor, however, is authorized to administer a final examination before the scheduled date. The instructor, the appropriate department head, the student's academic dean and the dean of the college in which the course is taught must approve any petition for an exception to this rule.

Fall 2014

Final examinations in 4-hour, 5-hour, and 6-hour courses are three hours in length; other courses have two-hour examinations. Examinations in 1 or 2-hour courses are arranged by the instructor. Examinations are normally held in the room regularly occupied by the class. Examinations for all daytime classes, with the exception of GHS 201- 209 and MA 106-107 courses, will begin and end according to the schedule in the table below.

Classes that do not start on the hour are placed in an examination period by the hour of the start of the class and by the first day of the class. For example, classes that meet on Tuesday and Thursday at 9:35 to 10:50 a.m. are scheduled into the 9 a.m. TR examination period.

Special Examinations

  • GHS 201-209 examinations will be held Tuesday, December 16th, from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
  • All MA106 and MA107 examinations will be held Monday, December 15th, from 6-9 p.m.
  • BI201 examinations will be held Tuesday, December 16th, from 6-9 p.m.
  • BI202 examinations will be held Wednesday, December 17th, from 6-9 p.m.
  • BI203 examinations will be held Monday, December 15th, from 6-9 p.m.

Evening class examinations

Classes that start at 4 p.m. or later follow the evening examination schedule. For classes meeting once a week, the examination should be given on one evening. For classes meeting twice a week, the examination should be given in one evening if possible or two, if necessary. Evening class examinations begin on Monday, December 15th, and end on Saturday December 20th. Evening class examinations are normally held in the room regularly occupied by the class. All evening examinations will begin at the same time as the usual class starting time and will end according to the lengths of examinations listed. Because of the wide variety of starting and ending times of evening classes, conflicts of examination times are possible; therefore, instructors and students should consult on times of examinations and adjust their schedules accordingly.
