Frequently Asked IM Questions

How do I form a Intramural Team?

You can form a team of residence hall, fraternity, sorority, or any mix of students that follow our eligibility guidelines in the IM Hanbook. If you haven't found enough members for a team we encourage you to use our Intramural Sports Facebook group: "Butler University Intramural Sports"

How do I register for an Intramural Sport?

1. Official Intramural Registration Forms, available at the HRC Control Desk or online must be used to enter Intramural Sports activities. Registration forms must be completed legibly.
2. The captain/chairperson must completely fill out the requested information on the form, including activity and program (fraternity, open, etc.), contact information and BUID.
3. For league sports, availability scheduling will be used. Be sure to have an idea of what day/times your team can participate.
4. The section certifying knowledge of rules and eligibility requirements must be signed.
5. All registrations must be turned into the Health and Recreation Control Desk (HRC Main Floor) by closing on the posted registration deadline with the proper registration fee. All registrations received after the deadline will be put on a waiting list and are not guaranteed a place in the league/tourney.
6. Mandatory Captain's Meetings MUST be attended by a captain or team representative for all league sports! (sports with captain's meetings are listed on the IM Schedule and on the registration receipt)

Where can I register for Intramural Sports?

Registration forms are available online as well as at the Control Desk of the Health and Recreation Complex (HRC).

What is the difference between a Team Sport and a Individual Sport?

Team sports require more than two people to play and require registration as a team. Dual/Individual Sports can be played with only one or two people and are not officiated.

What is a Captains' Meeting?

It is the preseason meeting where rules, policies & procedures, and season format are discussed. This is also the meeting where schedules are disseminated.

Are Captains' Meetings mandatory?

Yes!!! At least one person from each team must attend the meeting. It is very important to explain new rules and schedules so the league can operate smoothly. Failure to attend will count as a forfeit...your next forfeit will cause your team to be dropped from your league and playoffs.

What do I get if I, or my team wins the Intramural Sports Championship in any sport?

An Intramural Sport Championship T-Shirt that will make you the envy of the whole campus!
