We offer a variety of approximately 30 exciting, fun, and dynamic classes per week!

BU Rec Group Fitness classes are FREE with your HRC membership!

Boot Camp

Basic Training Boot Camp- Jump start your morning with a lighter version of our extreme boot camp.  Training for the whole body including running drills, agility moves, strength conditioning and lots of fun!  Previous exercise experience recommended.  Bring your water bottle! (1 hour)

"The Mix" Boot Camp - For those wanting a lot of VARIETY along with an intense workout - this class is for you!  It will incorporate all types of cardio conditioning.  Each month will be a different format including indoor cycle bikes, jump ropes, kickboxing, steps and more. Previous exercise experience recommended.  (1 hour)

The X (short for extreme boot camp) - 60 minutes of high intensity training for the whole body!  Previous exercise experience required (we recommend you try the Basic Camp first).  Bring your water bottle and hold on tight for the workout ride of your life! (1 hour)

Conditioning

Machine Works - Focuses on a different piece of cardio equipment each class and incorporates various programs, speeds, and resistances.  With a 30 minute duration this is a great way to achieve a fun and exciting cardio workout that you can use later on your own! (30 minutes, 4 week class)

Rowing - Row, row, row your…body to a new cardio level with this low impact 30 minute class on our rowing machines.  Sign-up is required for this class.   (30 minutes, 4 week class)

Treadmill Trekking - Take a walk on the wild side with a class on the treadmills!  This 30 minute class incorporates bouts of hill climbing with flat stretches as well as increasing and decreasing your speed and resistance.  Sign-up is required for this class. (30 minutes, 4 week class)

T-N-T - Toning, Non-Stop Cardio and Tummy.  Allow your fitness to explode in this class with a full body workout including strength, cardio and abdominal work.  You'll look dynamite after you hit this class! (1 hour)

Dance

Hip Hop - Learn to pop, drop and lock it all while getting fit.  You will improve your ability to execute body isolations, move to specific beats, increase your hip hop vocabulary, and challenge your stamina and strength.  Most importantly this class is energetic and fun! (1 hour)

Zumba - Latin dance inspired cardio - learn a variety of Latin dance steps all while burning calories and shakin' like Shakira.  Don't miss the party!!! (1 hour)

Cycling

Beginning Cycle - Love the thought of indoor cycling, but unsure of how to use the bikes or wonder if you are able to endure the workout?  This is the perfect four week class for you.  You'll learn basic bike set-up, common indoor cycling terms and how to ride in a class with all levels of riders. (30 minutes, 4 week class)

Cycling 45/60 - Experience 45 or 60 minutes on an indoor cycling adventure through hills, open roads, races and oh, watch out for the mud!  This challenge class is open for all levels.  Be sure to bring your towel and water bottle! (45 or 60 minutes)
*Note Fall 09 there will be an outdoor Saturday cycling class in September (weather permitting)!

Cycle 30/45- If you show up at 6:30a.m., you'll get an intense 30 minute indoor cycling class full of drills, hills and sprints.  Not a lot of time, but a ton of fun and calorie burn! 
If you'd like to really kick your cycle workout into high gear, come at 6:15 a.m. to get a 45 minute workout.  Water bottle and towel highly recommended. (30 minutes)

Mind/Body

Fusion (Yoga/Pilates) - Ideal for those wanting the focus of lengthening and strengthening with Pilates and the additional mental focus of Yoga All levels welcome!  (1 hour)

Mat Pilates - This class is based on the traditional teachings of Joseph Pilates.  It encompasses strength, core training and stability along with focused breathing techniques.  A great compliment to traditional cardio and strength work (45 minutes/1 hour) Beginner/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced levels available.

Hatha Yoga - New to the HRC in the Fall of 09.  This yoga practice takes you through a slow warm-up leading into a series of standing and seated poses.  Modifications are offered to welcome beginners but advance options are offered for experienced students as well.

Restorative Yoga (sponsored by Healthy Horizons) - This class offers basic Hatha postures and breathing techniques for reducing stress, increasing flexibility, and improving circulation and nerve functions.  Comfort is the key through using non-aggressive movements.  Appropriate for anyone from beginners to those with Yoga experience!  Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket for use in class.

Flow Yoga - Designed for the new yogi or the experienced participant who is interested in a deeper understanding of the poses.  You will go through the basic poses and be introduced to vinyasa breathing techniques and class structure.

Traditional

Ab Lab - The lab is where the hard work is done and you'll walk out of this lab with a stronger core.  Work on the abdominals and other stabilization core muscles will be accomplished! (20 minutes)
*Note Fall 09 there will be an outdoor F"ab" Fall class in September (weather permitting)

Cardio Cleanse Circuits - This Sunday afternoon class is for those who feel they need to calorie cleanse after the weekend and get a fresh fitness start for their week.  Clear out the calories with cardio and strength circuits. (1 hour)

Construction Zone - WARNING!  Spring Break work in progress! It's never too early to start toning that body for the beach.  This 30 minute toning class will help you fine tune and get you in beach body shape! (30 minutes)

Monthly Mix (sponsored by Healthy Horizons) - Each month this class will focus on a different cardio adventure - Basic Boot Camp (9/11-10-2), Zumba (10/9-10/30) and Pilates (11/6-12/4). (45 minutes)

Steppin' Up - Step into this class and get ready to step it up. Whether you are a beginner or advanced stepper this workout uses basic step moves to challenge all participants.  You'll step out knowing you got a great cardio workout. (1 hour)

Stretch, baby, Stretch - A 25 minute class of traditional stretches, if you love cardio and strength work, if you're a tried and true athlete, this class is just what you need to open up joints and protect against injury (25 minutes)

Tone Zone (sponsored by Healthy Horizons) - Tone that body, burn calories faster throughout the day and protect from bone and muscle weakness...all in 30 minutes twice a week.  You will get a full body toning session.  Beginners to advanced fitness fans welcome!
Fall 2009 NEW Bonus section: 15 Minute Core - This last section of the Tone Zone class is optional, but once you try it, you'll want to stay every time!  Work those abdominals, lower back, hips and backside!
(45 minutes, last 15 are optional)

Water Fitness

Aqua Extreme (Deep Water Fitness) - A full-body workout using water resistance (Must be comfortable in deep water) (30 minutes)

Aqua Splash (Shallow Water Fitness) - Energetic and upbeat this shallow water class uses water and various equipment for resistance while toning, increasing endurance, and increasing flexibility. (30 minutes)
