Calendar of Key Academic Affairs Dates for 2013-2014

Fall 2013

August 19-20: New Faculty Orientation

August 21: Fall Faculty Workshop

August 25: Butler University Convocation and Reception

August 26: Academic Orientation Day

August 28: First Day of Classes

September: Dean forwards names of all candidates eligible for tenure and their probationary service reports to the Professional Standards Committee of the College and to the department head, where applicable

September 3: Sabbatical requests due to faculty member's immediate supervisor

September 15: Dean forwards the name of their College PSC representative to the Provost; Provost convenes the UPTC soon thereafter

September 20: Tenure and/or promotion application due to faculty member's immediate supervisor

October 15: Department report for all tenure and/or promotion candidates due to Dean of the College, who refers it to the College's Professional Standards Committee

October 15: Sabbatical reports for Spring 2013 due to Deans

November 1: Sabbatical recommendations for 2014-15 due to Provost

November 15: Professional Standards Committee tenure and/or promotion report due to Dean of College

November 15: Sabbatical reports for Spring 2013 due to Provost

December 2: Sabbatical request decisions announced to Dean and faculty member

December 13: Dean's tenure and/or promotion review and recommendation due to Provost, who refers it to the University Promotion and Tenure Committee

December 15: Deadline to notify tenure-track faculty in their second year of academic service of non-reappointment

December 16-20: Final Examinations

December 19: Academic Affairs Holiday Open House (Schrott Center Lobby, 2-4 p.m.)

December 22: Winter Commencement

December 23: Grades due by 3 p.m. to Registration and Records

Spring 2014

Beginning of each calendar year: Provost will coordinate with each College Dean's office to finalize the list of faculty members who are eligible for review during the next academic year

January: Dean notifies faculty entering their sixth year in the fall of that calendar year that they may be considered for tenure

January 13: First Day of Classes

January 15: University Promotion and Tenure Committee reports due to Provost for all tenure and promotion candidates

First Wednesday of Classes of the Spring Semester: Faculty Activity Reports for all faculty due by 5 p.m. (send to your College's Dean's office)

January 31: Provost's report on tenure and/or promotion candidates due to President

First Friday in February: Dossiers for faculty undergoing second- and fourth-year reviews due to College's Professional Standards Committee. For second-year faculty in Colleges whose Professional Standards Committee does not examine dossiers, dossiers should be submitted to the Dean of the College.

March 1: Deadline to notify tenure-track faculty in their first year of academic service of non-reappointment

March 7: President's report and recommendations for all tenure and/or promotion candidates presented to the Board of Trustees

March 15: Sabbatical reports for Fall 2013 due to Deans

April: CASE/Carnegie Foundation U.S. Professor of the Year nominations due

April 1: President provides written notice through Provost's office of the Board's decision to faculty being considered for tenure and promotion

April 15: Sabbatical reports for Fall 2013 due to Provost

April 30-May 6: Final Examinations

May 8: Grades due by 10 a.m. to Registration and Records

May 10: Spring Commencement
