Calendar of Key Academic Affairs Dates for 2012-2013
Fall 2012
August 13-14: New Faculty Orientation.
August 15: Fall Faculty Workshop.
August 19: Butler University Convocation and
Reception.
August 20: Academic Orientation Day.
August 22: First Day of Classes.
September: Dean forwards names of all
candidates for tenure and their probationary service reports to the
Professional Standards Committee of the college and to the
department head, where applicable.
September 1: Sabbatical requests due to faculty
member's immediate supervisor.
September 17: Tenure application due to faculty
member's immediate supervisor.
October 15: Department report for all tenure
and promotion candidates due to Dean of the College, who refers it
to the Professional Standards Committee.
October 15: Sabbatical reports for Spring 2012
due to Deans.
November 1: Sabbatical recommendations for
2013-14 due to Provost.
November 15: Professional Standards Committee
report due to Dean of College.
December 1: Sabbatical request decisions
announced to Dean and faculty member.
December 10: Dean's review and recommendation
due to Provost, who refers it to the University Promotion and
Tenure Committee.
December 10-15: Final Examinations.
December 15: Deadline to notify full-time
faculty in their second year of academic service of
non-reappointment, if appointment expires at end of academic year
or if an initial two-year appointment terminates during academic
year. Must notify six months in advance of termination.
December 16: Winter Commencement.
December 18: Grades due by 10 a.m. to
Registration and Records.
Spring 2013
Beginning of each calendar year: Provost will
send to each college dean a list of faculty members who are
eligible for review during the coming academic year.
January: Dean notifies faculty entering their
sixth year in the fall of that calendar year that they may be
considered for tenure.
January 14: First Day of Classes.
January 15: University Promotion and Tenure
Committee reports due to Provost for all tenure and promotion
candidates.
First Wednesday of Classes of the Spring
Semester: Faculty Activity Reports for
all faculty due by 5 p.m. (send to your College's Dean's
office).
February 1: Provost's report on tenure and
promotion candidates due to President.
First Friday in February: Dossiers for faculty
undergoing second- and fourth-year reviews due to college's
Professional Standards Committee. For second-year faculty in
colleges whose Professional Standards Committee does not examine
dossiers, dossiers should be submitted to the dean of the
college.
Mid-February: Evaluations completed by
department chairs/program managers due to Dean's office.
February 18: Position Requests for 2014-2015
due to Provost for review and discussion.
Late February: Evaluations reviewed and
completed by College Dean's office due to Provost office. Exact
date to be determined by the Director of Academic Budgets and
communicated to Deans.
March 1: Deadline to notify full-time faculty
of non-reappointment for those in their first year of academic
service when appointment expires at end of the academic year, and
faculty in one-year appointments. Must notify three months in
advance of termination.
March 15: Sabbatical reports for Fall 2012 due
to Deans.
April: CASE/Carnegie Foundation U.S. Professor
of the Year nominations due.
April 1: President provides written notice
through Provost office of the Board's decision to faculty being
considered for tenure and promotion.
April 15: Sabbatical reports for Fall 2012 due
to Provost.
May 1-7: Final Examinations.
May 9: Grades due by 10 a.m. to Registration
and Records.
May 11: Spring Commencement.
