Pre-Graduate and Pre-Professional Advising

Pre-Theological Advising Program

The Pre-Theological Advising Program serves Butler students interested in exploring or testing a calling to religious ministry, faith-based social service, or theological scholarship. The program also provides information and advising to students applying to theological schools, including university divinity schools and denominational seminaries. A special feature of the Pre-Theological Advising Program is occasional suppers and social gatherings featuring Butler alumni who are engaged in professional ministry or faith-based social service. The Pre-Theological Advising Program works closely with the Center for Faith and Vocation, Butler's religious life center in the Blue House, 4615 Sunset Avenue, Judith Cebula, director.

There is no Pre-Theology major at Butler, just as there is no Pre-Medical major or Pre-Law major. Graduate schools of theology recruit students from all majors and disciplines. However, prospective theological students should use their college years to get a firm foundation in written and oral communication skills and in religious and philosophical inquiry. The study of a foreign language-biblical or modern-is also a plus.

Whatever their major, Pre-Theological students are invited to consult with the Pre-Theological Advisor for assistance in planning their academic program.
