Requirements for Consideration by IU:

  • Biological sciences with lab, 8 - 10 credit hours (one academic year)
  • General chemistry with lab, 8 - 10 credit hours (one academic year)
  • Organic chemistry with lab, 8 - 10 credit hours (one academic year)
  • Physics with lab, 8 - 10 credit hours (one academic year)
  • Must be competent to speak and write in English
  • Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)
  • Apply through American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)
  • Three letters of recommendation:
    • from your Butler committee
    • a personal evaluation
    • a letter from the Office of Student Affairs
  • Minimum interview qualifications
    • Indiana residents - GPA 3.2 or better, MCAT 24 or better
    • nonresidents* - reviewed on an individual basis
      *nonresidents attending undergraduate college in Indiana or with other close ties will be given greater consideration

Recommendations for acceptance to IU:

  • Complete a BA or BS degree
  • Have a major from the traditional arts and sciences curriculum
  • If qualified enroll in undergraduate honors courses
  • Include a significant number of courses in the humanities and social and behavioral sciences
  • Limit withdrawals and repetition of courses
  • Be an Indiana resident or have significant ties to the state

Average accepted Butler student over past five years (1999 - 2003)

  • GPA = 3.78
  • MCAT = 28.75
