LSAT Information and Links
The Law School Admissions
Test (LSAT) is a standardized test required for admission
to all accredited law schools. The test is administered four times
each year (in February, June, October and December). The June test
date falls on a Monday and the test is administered in the
afternoon. The other three test dates fall on a Saturday, and the
test is given in the morning. Students intending to go straight
onto law school after graduation are encouraged to take the LSAT in
the summer after their junior year at Butler or, at the latest, in
the fall of their senior year.
The LSAT is comprised of five 35-minute sections of multiple
choice questions. Four of these sections are scored and the fifth
serves to test new items for future exams. The four scored sections
will include one reading comprehension section, one analytical
reasoning (logic games) section, and two logical reasoning
sections. At the conclusion of the multiple choice questions, a
30-minute writing sample is administered. The writing sample will
be shared with any law schools to which the student applies, but
will not count as part of the student's numerical score. The score
scale is from 120 to 180 - with 150 being an average score.
Students should plan to undertake substantial preparation before
sitting for the LSAT, as the LSAT score is an important component
of the law school admissions decision. Butler's pre-law resource
library includes applications for the test, review materials, and
practice tests. The Pre-Law Advisor is available to assist students
in readying for the exam.
