Scholarships

Butler University offers a variety of ways to fund your college education. Among these options are scholarships. There are a number of scholarships available to physics and astronomy students. They are:

Physics, Astronomy, and Engineering Scholarships

To Apply: Complete the Application for Freshman Admission and Scholarships.
Application Deadline: November 15, 2008 (postmarked date)
Award Amounts: $2,000 to $3,000 per year, renewable
Selection Criteria: Majoring in Physics/Astronomy and/or the Engineering Dual Degree Program. A minimum SAT score of 1230 (combined critical reading and math sections only) or ACT score of 27 or be ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class.
Notes: Students may apply for only one Departmental Scholarship. These awards may be offered in addition to the Freshman Academic Scholarships. Selected candidates will receive an invitation to visit campus for an interview and to become acquainted with the department which they have applied for a scholarship.

Freshman Academic Scholarships

To Apply: Complete the Application for Freshman Admission and Scholarships.
Application Deadline: February 1, 2009 (postmarked date)
Award Amounts: $5,000 to $12,000 per year, renewable
Selection Criteria: Awards are based on the student's academic record-SAT or ACT scores, class rank, high school curriculum and extracurricular involvement.
Notes: National Merit semi-finalists and National Achievement semi-finalists are guaranteed a minimum award. National Merit finalists who designate Butler University as their sponsor are eligible for an additional award from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation that ranges from $750 to $1,000.

Transfer Academic Scholarships

To Apply: Complete the Application for Transfer Admission.
Application Deadline: May 1, 2009
Award Amounts: Up to $4,000 per year, renewable
Selection Criteria: Students must intend to major in the College of Business Administration, the College of Education or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to be eligible for the scholarship.
Notes: Students transferring fewer than 24 hours of college level credit will be considered for an award based on the Freshman Academic Scholarship criteria. Transfer academic scholarship recipients who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honorary who apply for admission by May 1 will be considered for an additional $1,000 award.

International Student Scholarships

To Apply: Complete the Application for International Undergraduate Admission.
Application Deadline: May 1, 2009
Award Amounts: Variable, renewable
Selection Criteria: All international students admitted into the College of Business Administration, the College of Education, or the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are considered for an International Student Scholarship. Awards are based on the student's academic record, standardized test scores (TOEFL, SAT, ACT, etc.) class rank, essays, extracurricular involvement and parents' ability to contribute.
Notes: Butler offers a limited number of scholarships for students who are not citizens of the United States.
