Department of Pharmacy Practice

Our historic reputation
Since 1904, Butler's pharmacy programs have led the way for
progressive pharmaceutical education at an independent
college/university. The program's long and distinguished history
means that Butler is a trusted educational choice. Recently the US
News & World Report ranked the Butler College of Pharmacy and
Health Sciences 54th in the country in a listing of the top
pharmacy colleges. The college is accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Pharmacy Education and is a member of the American Association of Colleges of
Pharmacy.
Curriculum design
Butler's core curriculum is integrated into the two-year,
pre-professional phase of your education. This comprehensive,
liberal arts-based education prepares you for both your career and
a lifetime of learning. The professional education follows: four
years of intensive study with a rigorous mix of classroom,
laboratory and experiential learning.
Innovative space and personal attention
Flexible classroom spaces permit learning in a traditional
setting or in cooperation with small groups. Network access in all
classrooms and residence halls accommodate computer-assisted
teaching. Most importantly, our renovated laboratories and
classrooms encourage collaboration. Students learn from professors
and licensed professionals who know their students by name and care
about their learning accomplishments.
Automatic advancement into the professional phase
If a student attains the requisite requirements during his/her
pre-professional studies, he/she will automatically advance to the
professional phase without any additional application
procedures.
Butler graduates are in demand
Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take
the North American Pharmacy Licensing Exam ( NAPLEX), the national
examination which leads to the licensure as a pharmacist. The
passing rate for Butler pharmacy students on the NAPLEX is
consistently above the national average, and in 2001, 2002, 2003,
and 2004 and 2008 it was 100%. We have the 7th highest board pass
rates in the country, and we are the #1 private institution with a
99.26% passing rate.
The college also has a 100% job or residency placement rate,
with many employment offers extended before graduation. Our
graduates typically have 2-4 job offers from which to choose.
