Streetscape Project Overview

Project Renderings Graphic

Butler University is pleased to be partnering with the City of Indianapolis on a streetscape project that will improve the public entrances and gateways to campus. Project goals include beautification, traffic calming, and public wayfinding.

The initial phase of the streetscape project began in April 2014 and primarily addresses Sunset Avenue between Hampton Drive and 49th Street. Additional areas of attention include the intersection of Sunset Avenue and 46th Street and the curve at Sunset Avenue and 49th Street.

Maps and renderings available on this site detail the Phase I location and additional information regarding detours, campus access, and parking during construction.

Phase I of the streetscape project will last approximately one year, with additional phases and campus thoroughfares being addressed in subsequent years. A full Phase I schedule is available on the "Project Timeline" feature.

Phase I Project Highlights

  • $3 million in upgrades to Sunset Avenue
  • Restructuring of curve at 49th Street
  • Boulevard style medians, lined with trees
  • New street lamps and campus signage
