You have a lot of questions, and you've come to the right place. This site is designed to answer the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) addressed to The Office of Alumni and Parent Programs. Besides providing answers to some of our most commonly asked questions, answers can be found here to questions concerning student services, student affairs and academic affairs. If you can't find the information you need, please email your questions to parent@butler.edu.

What is the best way for me to stay informed about important events and deadlines pertaining to my student? ~ Show Answer

Butler will send you information throughout your student's academic career both via mail and through our Parent NewsFlash email. It is important to make sure that we have the correct contact information for you to receive these updates. To ensure that you receive this information in a timely manner, please update your contact information online   or call (800) 368-6852, ext. 9946. View past editions of the Parent NewsFlash email. Parents are also invited to join the Butler Parent Facebook page to connect with other families and receive updates via social media.  

DawgAlert is Butler's emergency notification system. In the event of a campus emergency, weather-related delay or closing, Butler University will activate the emergency notification tool, DawgAlert. This system gives Butler administrators the ability to reach students, faculty and staff on and off campus via text messages and voice and email alerts. Students can add parents and family members to their profile to receive updates as well. Learn more about the DawgAlert system.

How do I become a member of the Butler University Parent Association? ~ Show Answer

Parents of current Butler students are automatically members of our Parent Association. As a Parent Association member, you will receive all relevant mailings and our  Parent NewsFlash email.

What is Family Weekend? ~ Show Answer

Family Weekend, held in the fall semester, is a great opportunity for families to return to campus and experience portions of their student's life first-hand. There are special activities for younger siblings, information sessions for parents and events for the entire family. Look for registration information early in the fall semester or visit the  Family Weekend website.

Is there a Spring Parents Weekend on campus? ~ Show Answer

Butler University does not have a campus-wide Parents Weekend in the spring. Many of the University's academic colleges and Greek organizations do plan family-oriented programming in the spring, typically at the end of March or beginning of April. Please check with your student to learn more about any events or programming in which he/she may be involved during this time.

Why do I receive invitations to alumni events in my area? ~ Show Answer

Butler plans events throughout the year in both the Indianapolis area and in regions throughout the country. As members of the Butler community, you are invited to attend many of these events and are encouraged to join us and other parents, past-parents, and friends of the University when we gather as a community.
