How can I become involved on campus as a Butler parent?
Butler has a parent advisory group, the Parent Council, which serves as a liaison between parents, students and the University. This group is made up of representatives from up to 40 families, representing each class level and meets twice each year on campus. What is the best way for me to stay informed about important events and deadlines pertaining to my student?
Butler will send you information throughout your student’s career both via mail and through our Parent NewsFlash email. It is important to make sure that we have the correct contact information for you to receive these updates. To ensure that you receive this information in a timely manner, please send any changes to your address, phone number or email to parent@butler.edu or call (800) 368-6852, ext. 9946. You can click here to view past editions of the Parent NewsFlash email.
Butler will also send you information about emergency situations through a Parent Notification listserv. Parents that receive the Parent NewsFlash are automatically a member of this listserv. If you do not receive the Parent NewsFlash send an email with your address and email to parent@butler.edu or call (800) 368-6852, ext. 9946.
Instant Alert Plus, a notification system that delivers emergency information and weather-related delays and closings to students on and off campus via text messages and voice and email alerts, is another way to stay informed about campus situations. Parents cannot sign up for this system but their contact information, such as phone numbers and/or email addresses, can be added to their student’s profile. Encourage your student to sign up for Instant Alert Plus and to add your information to their profile.

How do I become a member of the Butler University Parent Association?
Parents of current Butler students are automatically members of our Parent Association. As a Parent Association member, you will receive all relevant mailings and our Parent News Flash email.

What are Summer Send-Off Socials?
Each summer the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs and the Office of Admission partner to host these get-togethers for Butler students (incoming and current) and alumni in various parts of the Midwest. These informal socials offer new Butler families the chance to talk with other families who are familiar with the Butler experience and to get to know some familiar faces before the fall semester. Send-offs usually are held between mid-June and July. For information about Summer Send-Off Socials, contact the alumni office at (800) 368-6852, ext. 9946.

What is Family Weekend?
Family Weekend (typically in October) is a great opportunity for families to return to campus and experience portions of their student’s life first-hand. There are special activities for younger siblings, information sessions for parents and events for the entire family. Look for registration information to arrive in the mail early in the fall semester or visit the Family Weekend Web site.

Is there a Spring Parents Weekend on campus?
Butler University does not have a campus-wide Parents Weekend in the spring. Many of the University’s academic colleges and Greek organizations do plan family-oriented programming in conjunction with the spring Honors Weekend, which typically falls at the end of March or beginning of April. Please check with your student to learn more about any events or programming in which they may be involved during this time.

Why do I receive invitations to alumni events in my area?
Butler plans events throughout the year in both the Indianapolis area and regions throughout the country. As members of the Butler family, you are invited to attend many of these events and encouraged to join us and other parents, past-parents and friends of the University when we gather as a community.
