Welcome Freshman Class!
As the Student Body President of Butler University, I am happy to
be one of the first people to welcome you to campus. I'm thrilled
you decided to be a Butler Bulldog! My time at Butler has been
filled with remarkable experiences and wonderful people. I am
confident that yours will be too.
I did not encounter these experiences and people by chance. They
happened because I got involved in campus and made it a point to
meet as many people as possible. I challenge you to do the same.
Very few special memories are made sitting alone watching TV in
your dorm room. College is the time to break out of your shell,
push your comfort zone and grow as a person.
As I mentioned, the best way to do that is to get involved in
something. You are fortunate to be a part of Butler University, an
active campus with over 150 student organizations. These
organizations range from everything to community service and
philanthropy to political to recreational. During Welcome Week, on
Tuesday, August 21 from 5-7, you will have the chance to take part
in Block Party. This is a great Butler tradition where all of the
student organizations set up a table on the mall (the grassy area
beside Atherton Union) and distribute information about their club.
You get the chance to sign up to attend call-out meetings as well
as get loads of free stuff! I strongly encourage you to attend.
A fantastic way to get involved and be connected to student life
and campus activities is through the Student Government Association
(SGA). Our organization is large and has a great deal of influence
on campus. Most importantly, we are completely student led. Even as
a first year student, you have many opportunities to get involved
with SGA. You may serve on one of our six boards or be a
representative to the SGA Assembly for your residence hall or
another student organization. Look for a tent at block party to
learn more!
I really look forward to meeting you and hope that you take
pride in being a Butler Bulldog! Your college years go by so
quickly, so try to savor every moment. Here at Butler, your
opportunities are endless and the choices are yours. I'll see you
in just a few short weeks!
Sincerely,
Mike Keller
