2013 Pre-Welcome Week Programs

Connect with Campus Early

Why wait until Welcome Week to meet fellow bulldogs? You can kick around the city, hone your leadership skills, learn what goes into planning a major sporting event, or have a wilderness adventure. Regardless of which you choose, start connecting with other Butler students early! With online registration, it's easy to get started.

Watch for an e-mail notification in late May letting you know that online registration for these pre-Welcome Week programs is open. Once your registration is confirmed, more details will be sent to participants.


Ambassadors of Change (AOC)

Ambassadors of Change (AOC) is a week-long program that focuses on service and leadership. Participants will engage in daily service projects, discuss social issues with classmates and community members, and work on small group projects. Fun evening activities round out each day, providing plenty of opportunities to get to know classmates and the city of Indianapolis! Learn more.


Dawg Days Diversity Orientation Program

Dawg Days is our annual Diversity Orientation Program. It is designed to acquaint our new students from diverse backgrounds with current students, faculty and staff in a more intimate setting. Activities provide a wonderful opportunity for those from underrepresented populations to bond and become acclimated to the campus culture and environment.

Who: First-year students from underrepresented populations and students with a passion for celebrating diversity!
When: Early residence hall move in Tuesday, August 14
Cost: $100 includes meals, transportation, and activities

Bring: Lots of energy and enthusiasm! 

Minimum: 15; Maximum: 35.

Welcome to Sports Town!

Welcome to Sports Town! explores how large sporting events like the Indy 500, Final 4, and the Super Bowl are coordinated. By tapping into our vast Butler network, our mission will be to explore many aspects of preparing for center stage, world-class events. We will be meeting with key members of sports associations, visiting venues and considering the impact of the sports industry on the region.

What past participants have said:

Who: Sports fans; those interested in sports, recreation and/or event planning as a career interest
When: Early residence hall move in Wed. August 21. Program begins at 4:00pm
Cost: $240 includes transportation, meals, and activity fees

Bring: A jersey from your favorite sports team

Minimum: 12; Maximum: 24

Wilderness Explorers

The adventure begins by traveling from Butler to Red River Gorge, KY where we will camp and do some hiking. We will visit The Torrent Falls Climbing Adventure where participants experience climbing on the Via Ferrata.  From Kentucky, the group will travel to Morengo Cave National Landmark in southern Indiana. Participants will experience camping, a Cave Crawl Tour, and canoeing on the Blue River. On the final day of our trip, the group will travel to Brown County, IN to participate in a Zip Line Canopy Tour then head back to campus to experience Butler's High Challenge Course. All participants will have the opportunity to establish community and lasting friendships!

Who: Outdoor enthusiasts willing to teach and learn new skills
When: Early residence hall move-in on Monday, August 19, by noon and leave campus by 3pm
Cost: $465 includes transportation, meals, equipment and guides

Bring: Clothing to keep you warm & dry and personal items. A suggested packing list will be provided.

Minimum: 8; Maximum: 20 participants
