All-Star Band Weekend


February 20-22, 2015

We are pleased to offer again a unique performing and learning experience for outstanding high school instrumentalists, the Butler University All-Star Band Weekend.

Held on the beautiful Butler campus, this experience is an excellent opportunity for students to meet gifted peers, rehearse and perform quality music, attend masterclasses and clinics with our faculty artists, and perform in concert in magnificent new Schrott Center for the Arts.

Applicant Eligibility and Requirements

  • Be an outstanding instrumentalist, in grades 9-12, capable of performing Class A literature.
  • Submit an online application.
  • Submit a recommendation from a school music director or private teacher.  Butler's recommendation form is encouraged, but a letter from the music teacher is also acceptable.

Note: A pre-screen recording is no longer required.  


Activities will begin on Friday, Feb. 20, with registration and chair placement auditions from 3:30-5 p.m. After dinner, the first rehearsal will be held from 6:15-7:30 p.m. After that, a performance by the Butler Chorale precedes an all-you-can eat pizza party!

Saturday is a day of rehearsals, clinics, and coaching. A highlight of the day will be a performance by the Butler Symphony Orchestra, followed by a reception with food and fellowship for band members.

Sunday morning begins with breakfast, one final dress rehearsal on stage, and concludes with the gala finale concert by the All-Star High School Band and Butler University Wind Ensemble in the Schrott Center at 2 p.m. More information on the Butler Bands.

Housing & Meals

Students needing housing will be hosted and escorted by members of Butler University bands. Meals are included in the registration fee (except for Sunday lunch). 


Information including music, maps, and medical release and housing forms will be emailed in advance of All-Star Band Weekend. A $60 fee will be charged to help defray costs. Make checks payable to Butler University.   Payment is accepted in advance or at check-in on February 20.
