February 20-22, 2015

We are pleased to offer again a unique performing and learning experience for outstanding high school instrumentalists, the Butler University All-Star Band Weekend.

Held on the beautiful Butler campus, this experience is an excellent opportunity for students to meet gifted peers, rehearse and perform quality music, attend masterclasses and clinics with our faculty artists, and perform in concert in magnificent new Schrott Center for the Arts.

Applicant Eligibility and Requirements

  • Be an outstanding instrumentalist, in grades 9-12, capable of performing Class A literature.
  • Submit a recommendation from a school music director or private teacher.
  • Submit an application form (PDF); a $10 non-refundable deposit; and an individual mp3, CD, or video containing a maximum of seven minutes of music.
  • Label each recording with a name, instrument, and selections performed.
  • Audition excerpts should contain a slow, legato work and a contrasting etude or movement of a more technical nature. Percussionists should perform on at least two different instruments.

Deadline for audition recording submissions: Feb. 5, 2015

Note: All State Band members will automatically be accepted after providing proof of membership, but must still submit a recording.

Schedule

Activities will begin on Friday, Feb. 20, with registration and chair placement auditions from 3:30-5 p.m. After dinner, the first rehearsal will be held from 6:15-7:30 p.m. After that, a performance by the Butler Jazz Ensemble precedes an all-you-can eat pizza party!

Saturday is a day of rehearsals, clinics, and coaching. A highlight of the day will be a performance by the Butler Symphony Orchestra, followed by a reception with food and fellowship for band members.

Sunday morning begins with breakfast, one final dress rehearsal on stage, and concludes with the gala finale concert by the All-Star High School Band and Butler University Wind Ensemble in the Schrott Center at 2 p.m. More information on the Butler Bands.
