Dr. Steven Roberson, associate dean, piano pedagogy
He has served as president of Indiana Music Teachers Association, which awarded him the "Indiana Music Teacher of the Year" in 1995. He has also twice received the Music Teachers National Association’s "Article of the Year" award. In 2005, Dr. Roberson led the work to completely revise Butler’s Core Curriculum, and he is currently co-directing the University’s Assessment protocols. In JCFA, he manages recruitment, retention, advising, curricular, and diversity initiatives, while also serving as editor of Overture. Dr. Roberson has received numerous research grants, including a "Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship" from the Indianapolis Arts Council, several Butler Faculty Fellowships, two Lilly Endowment grants for curricular development, and a Research Fellowship from the Indiana Committee for the Humanities. Dr. Roberson earned his Ph.D. in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. His M.M. in Piano Performance is from Texas Christian University, while his second master’s degree, an M.B.A., is from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
