Craig Hetrick, percussion
Holding degrees from the University of Delaware and Indiana University, where he was awarded the coveted "Performer's Certificate", Mr. Hetrick has studied with world renown teachers such as; Gerald Carlyss, Principal Timpanist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, George Gaber Distinguished Professor I.U., Christopher Williams, Principal Percussionist, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Jim Chapin, a world-renowned drum set author and educator. He has also studied with Tim Adams, Principal Timpanist, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Richard Weiner, Principal Percussionist Cleveland Orchestra, and Alan Abel, Percussionist Philadelphia Orchestra. He has toured extensively in the United States and Europe and is well versed in all styles of percussion and drum set playing. His expertise includes jazz-fusion and big band drumming; Jim Chapin has referred to Mr. Hetrick as "one of the best jazz-fusion drummers I have ever heard." He has performed on drum set on tours with Bob Hope, Perry Como, and Johnny Mathis as well as performing with local jazz artists. While still in high school he was selected to be the drummer for the American Youth Jazz Band and toured Europe for 2 weeks with them. As Percussionist/ Timpanist for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Hetrick has performed at major concert halls in London, Berlin, Munich, Paris, Barcelona, and Vienna. He has played under well-known conductors such as Skrowaczewski, David Zinman, Itzhak Perlman and Antal Dorati. Mr. Hetrick has recorded many CD's with artists ranging from David Baker's chamber work, "Homage a L'Histoire, Raymond Leppard and the Indianapolis Symphony to recordings of Hoagie Carmichael's timelessly popular music. His composition "Tip of the Andes" (published by Southern Music), has been performed by percussion ensembles throughout the United States and Europe. The piece was reviewed by Percussive Notes Magazine, and has been performed in Germany, Spain, Florida, Delaware, and Indiana. The most recent performance was in Washington D.C. at the John Phillip Sousa Hall by the "President's Own" United States Marine Band, under the direction of John J. Tafoya, Principal Timpanist of the National Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Hetrick's students have received Indiana University's Concerto Competition honors, performed with I.U. orchestras, and former students are currently performing with major orchestras and military ensembles in the United States. Mr. Hetrick has presented clinic/master classes on orchestral percussion for the Indiana Percussive Arts Society, Ball State University, Indiana University, and Butler University.
