Jon Crabiel, percussion

Jon CrabielJon Crabiel is currently artist-in-residence in percussion at Butler University's Jordan College of Fine Arts, where he serves as head of the percussion studies program and conducts the university percussion ensemble and steel drum ensemble. He is a regular extra/substitute percussionist and timpanist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, serves as principal timpanist for the Bear Valley Music Festival, has toured with the River City Brass Band, and has performed with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra, the Empire Brass, the Ronen Chamber Ensemble, Dance Kaleidoscope, the Indianapolis Brass Choir, and with artists Art Garfunkel, Bobby McFerrin, Collin Raye, and Doc Severinsen.

He studied with Timothy Adams, Jr. at Carnegie Mellon University as an artist diploma student and received both his bachelor of music and master of music degrees from Eastern Illinois University with Johnny Lee Lane.

An active performer, clinician and educator throughout the Midwest, Mr. Crabiel serves as percussion coach of the honors orchestra for Bands of America. He has presented clinics for Bands of America, the Percussive Arts Society of Indiana's Day of Percussion, the Indiana Music Educators Association Convention, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Indiana Percussion Association, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's Symphony In Color, and the Drumbeat Exhibit of the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Mr. Crabiel has served on the faculties of the United States Percussion Camp, the MidWest Percussion Camp, the Las Vegas Percussion Camp, the Great Lakes Music Camp, and the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. He also made solo appearances at the 2003 Percussive Arts Society’s International Convention, Midwest Band and Orchestra's International Conference, and the Indiana Music Educators Association's Convention.

Mr. Crabiel is a performing artist/clinician for Yamaha Corporation of America, Paiste cymbals and gongs, and ProMark sticks and mallets. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife and son Luke.
