Butler University's newest Adjunct Instructor of Clarinet, Shawn Goodman, specializes in commercial and jazz clarinet performance, and music-business, specifically related to non-profits in music education.  She holds a Bachelor of Music in Education with a concentration in Jazz Studies from the University of Indianapolis, and a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance from Butler University, where she completed a Graduate Assistantship in Conducting with Dr. Robert Grechesky.  She has held Band and Orchestra Director positions at Andrew J. Brown Academy, Cathedral High School, and Bishop Chatard High School.

Goodman matriculated through the Indiana University School of Music Jazz Studies program, where she was a member of David Baker's Jazz Ensemble, and placed runner-up in the Sisters-in-Jazz International Collegiate Competition her sophomore year.  She placed first-chair clarinet in the IMEA Intercollegiate Honor Band in 2006 and 2012.  Shawn has studied clarinet with Frank Glover, James Campbell, David Bellman, and Achille Rossi.  She has been a featured guest artist with the Taylor University Jazz Ensemble, and a featured soloist on albums with the Wave Mechanics Union, and Peter Terry and the City Prophets.  Goodman has been a featured jazz artist in NUVO magazine and in the INDIANAPOLIS STAR.

         Shawn performs regularly at the Jazz Kitchen, the Chatterbox Jazz Club, the Fountain Square Chamber Music Series, and at the Hebrew Congregation of Indianapolis, and is a sub for the Booth-Tarkington Civic Theatre, the Lafayette Symphony, and the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra.  Mrs. Goodman adjudicates for the ISSMA Solo/Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Organizational Contests, and is a clinician for the IMEA Music Festivals. 

         Mrs. Goodman has presented interactive music workshops for MENSA members, and is currently the Secretary and Treasurer of the Indiana Jazz Educators Association, the 2013 All-State High School Jazz Coordinator, and is the Conductor and President of the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of Greater Indianapolis (www.syogi.org), a non-profit summer youth orchestra program based out of Marian University.  Professor Goodman has been teaching clarinet and saxophone lessons, master-classes, and workshops for 17 years, and many of her high-school students have placed in All-State Honor Bands and in Side-by-Side with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
