Jon Crabiel, percussion

Jon Crabiel is currently Artist-in-Residence in Percussion at
Butler University's Jordan College of Fine Arts School of Music,
where he serves as head of the percussion studies program, conducts
the university Percussion Ensemble, Latin Percussion, Mallet and
Steel Drum Ensembles and teaches courses in percussion pedagogy and
world drumming. In addition, Mr. Crabiel serves as director and
instructor of the Butler Percussion Camp held every June on the
campus of Butler University. He is a regular extra/substitute
percussionist and timpanist with the Indianapolis Symphony
Orchestra and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, serves as principal
timpanist for the Bear Valley Music Festival, has toured with the
River City Brass Band, and has performed with the Naples
Philharmonic Orchestra, Ft. Wayne Philharmonic, Empire Brass, Ronen
Chamber Ensemble, Dance Kaleidoscope, Indianapolis Brass Choir and
with artists Art Garfunkel, Amy Grant, Bobby McFerrin, Collin Raye
and Doc Severinsen. In addition to classical music, Mr. Crabiel is
equally versed in rock, pop, jazz, fusion, contemporary, Latin
American and Brazilian percussion and drumset. He studied with
Timothy Adams, Jr. (Principal Timpanist, Pittsburgh Symphony) at
Carnegie Mellon University and received both his Bachelor of Music
(magna cum laude) and Master of Music degrees from Eastern
Illinois University with Professor Johnny Lee Lane.

An active performer, clinician and educator throughout the
Midwest, Mr. Crabiel serves as percussion coach of the Honors
Orchestra for the Music For All National Festival. He has presented
clinics for Music For All/Bands of America, University of Manitoba,
Percussive Arts Society Indiana Day of Percussion, Indiana Music
Educators Association Convention, Big Brothers and Big Sisters,
Indiana Percussion Association, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra
Symphony In Color and Children's Museum of Indianapolis
Drumbeats exhibit. Mr. Crabiel has served on the faculties
of the Butler Percussion Camp, United States Percussion Camp,
MidWest Percussion Camp, Las Vegas Percussion Camp, Great Lakes
Music Camp and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. He also made solo
appearances at the 2003 Percussive Arts Society International
Convention, Midwest Band and Orchestra International Conference and
the Indiana Music Educators Association Convention.
Mr. Crabiel's students have received numerous Butler University
Concerto Competition honors and his former students are currently
performing with major orchestras, touring nationally and
internationally with Broadway shows and teaching at universities in
North America. Mr. Crabiel is a Yamaha Performing Artist and
endorses Yamaha Drums and Percussion, Vic Firth Drumsticks and
Mallets, REMO Drumheads and Paiste Cymbals and Gongs. He lives in
Indianapolis with his wife and son.
