John SchmidJohn A. Schmid holds a B.M. and M.M. in Voice Performance from Butler University, Jordan College of Music and has also studied at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University with the renowned tenor, Jean Deis.

He has in his tenor/countertenor repertoire, some 15 opera roles and many choral works including Oberon-Midsummer Night's Dream, Albert Herring and Noyes Fludde-Britten, Der Peruckenmacher in Ariadne auf Naxos Handel-"Messiah, Bach-"Magnificat" and Orff-"Carmina Burana"

He has directed " Amahl and the Night Visitors" by Menotti, and has assisted with the direction of many opera chorus scenes in his capacity as Chorus Master of Indianapolis Opera for 27 seasons.

He has conducted many works including Handel "Messiah", Vivaldi-"Gloria", Finzi" Magnificat," Kern "Showboat", Loewe- "Kismet" and has prepared the choruses for over 50 operas from Gluck's "Orfeo" to Stravinsky's-"The Rake's Progress".

John is the Director of Music/Studios at Fairview Presbyterian Church where he directs the Chancel Choir, Children's Choir, Youth Orchestra and musical productions and maintains an active voice studio.

He is also, the Director of the Lyric Theatre- College of Music- Butler University.

Mr. Schmid holds memberships in The American Choral Director's Association, Presbyterian Association of Musician's, Music Teachers National Association, and The National Association of Teachers of Singing. He is listed in the 2007 edition of "Who's Who in America" and has served on the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra Board.
