Anna Briscoe, piano
Anna Briscoe has taught piano at Butler University for
twenty-five years. She has held similar positions at Wabash
College, Crawfordsville, Indiana; Meredith College, Raleigh, North
Carolina; and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. At
Butler she is responsible for teaching piano, Piano Technique,
Piano Literature and Keyboard Harmony. Furthermore, she
collaborates with students and faculty performing 25-30 recitals
annually.
A performance of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto with the
Indianapolis Philharmonic was a career highlight. She also has
presented or performed at national conventions of the Music
Teachers National Association, the College Music Society and the
American Musicological Society in Washington, D.C., London, Paris,
Venice, Chicago, and San Diego. She presented the world premiere of
Variación by Tania Leon in Chicago.
Ms. Briscoe was the original Music Director for the Docent
Program of the Indianapolis Symphony. In this capacity she planned
the course and trained the docents to go into the schools. She also
was co-chair of the Young Artist Competition of the Indianapolis
Symphony for four years. She currently is active in the Indiana
Music Teachers Association, serving as director of district
auditions.
She is a main accompanist for the renowned Indianapolis
Children's Choir. Ms. Briscoe has performed and travelled with the
choir to six continents for fifteen years, appearing in such venues
as St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Sydney Opera House, Lincoln
Center, Kennedy Center, St. Denis and Madeleine Churches in Paris.
In St. Petersburg, Russia she had the singular honor of performing
and recording with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra on harpsichord and
piano.
She received her Master of Music degree in piano from the
University of Alabama, studying with Roy McAllister. Post-graduate
work was done with Irwin Freundlich of the Juilliard School and
Pierre Sancan of the Paris Conservatoire. Ms. Briscoe maintains a
private studio of students and is a frequent adjudicator around the
Midwest.
