PIT Night Volunteer Spanish Interpreting
(Indianapolis Public Schools Parents In Touch Night)

Each October since 2004 Butler's Spanish program has partnered
with the Indianapolis Public School System to provide invaluable
help to schools 49 and 61. Student interpreters assist classroom
teachers in parent-teacher conferences with Spanish-speaking Latino
families. This effort is an excellent opportunity for Butler
Spanish students to serve the community and engage in a real-world
cultural and linguistic experience. In addition to this once a year
tradition, IPS ENL coordinators and teachers from IPS 49 and 61 are
open to flexible plans that involve Butler students in tutoring and
mentoring Latino students based on individual or small group
schedules.
