General Minor Requirements
A minor in French, German, or Spanish consists of 21 hours in
the language, at least 12 of these hours being on the 300 and 400
levels.
Advanced placement credits in the language and credits earned in
an approved study abroad program count toward majors in modern
languages. Students who major in a modern language may include
study abroad in their programs.
All freshmen interested in continuing a language studied in high
school take a placement test during the pre-registration period or
orientation week. Students who place at the 200 or 300 level on
this test earn from 3 to 9 hours of advanced placement credits
after completion, with grades of C or better, of 6 hours of the
language on the 300 level. Students who take the College Board
Advanced Placement Tests in high school earn 3 hours advanced
placement credit on the 300 level for each score of 4 or 5.
Students must apply for this A.P. credit in the Learning Resource
Center, JH136.
