Departmental Honors in Languages
Students can obtain Departmental Honors
without receiving University Honors. Information about the Honors Program at Butler. University Honors and
Department Honors are separate from Honors Program Honors. For
students following the listed degree requirements as of Fall 2001,
details on Departmental Honors in Languages are as follows:
Eligibility*
Highest Honors
Major GPA of 3.8 (with Thesis and Portfolio)A 3.800 GPA in the
academic major and successful completion of an honors thesis approved by the department and the
University Honors Program Committee AND successful completion of a
portfolio
project in the major subject.
High Honors
A 3.700 GPA academic major and satisfactory completion of a thesis approved by the department and the
University Honors Program OR successful completion of a portfolio
project in the major subject.
Honors**
A 3.600 GPA in the academic major.
*Students with an adequate major GPA qualify for highest or high
honors. Depending on the level of success in their portfolio
project and/or thesis, highest honors candidates may receive
highest honors, high honors or honors. High honors candidates may
receive high honors or honors.
**Students receiving Cum Laude University Honors will not
receive Departmental Honors as well.
