Butler Advanced Placement Credits

Students entering Butler University will have the opportunity to take Placement Tests in their language. Based on performance on these tests, students may be eligible for Butler Advanced Placement Credits. Students placing at the 300-level are eligible for 9 Butler Advanced Placement credits (upon completion of 2 300-level credits). Students placing at 203 or 204 level may also gain 3 or 6 Butler Advanced Placement credits respectively (upon completion of 2 300-level credits). These credits count toward major or minor programs in languages. Please fill out the Advanced Placement Credits Form. DO NOT SUBMIT THIS APPLICATION UNTIL BOTH 300-LEVEL CLASSES ARE COMPLETE!

AP Credit

Students who score a 4 or 5 on AP Tests will receive 3 300-level credits in their language once proof of tests has been submitted to the university Registrar. Students will also remain eligible for 9 Butler Advanced Placement Credits and will begin their Butler language program at the 300-level.

CLEP Credit

Students who pass the CLEP exam with a score of 50 or above are also eligible for college credit at Butler. Please see the department head for specific details.

College Level Credit

Students who have completed college-level language classes while still in High School can transfer those credits to Butler and receive college credit. Students will then continue on the same track as they had left off on after their college-level courses. Please have documents such as course syllabi ready to help transfer process go smoothly. All credit transfer issues will run through the Butler University Registrar's office with any interpretation done by the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures & Cultures.
