German "Stammtisch"
"Stammtisch" is a German tradition in which friends
gather at a local restaurant or pub (Kneipe) for libations and good
discussion. If you go into a "Kneipe" or restaurant in Germany,
Austria or Switzerland, you may well see a table with a sign that
says "Stammtisch". Only the most honored and well-known patrons sit
there. At Butler University we have our own weekly "Stammtisch"
where old and new friends gather to chat in German, share the
experiences of the day, try out their knowledge and relax. Come and
join us for "Stammtisch".
