Oktoberfest in Indianapolis
The Family
Oktoberfest downtown in the Athenaeum gives Butler students a
nice chance to get out and help in the community. Students
help with games and face-painting for the kids. It is a real
"German-speaking" environment as many of the people who come for
the fun and games are from Indy's large German community, and
therefore a really good opportunity to meet people and speak
German!
The German-American Klub (GAK) of Indianapolis (south side in
Greenwood) hosts its annual Oktoberfest early in September every
year. Students often come to take in the fun, music and
dancing. Again, there are more Germans in Indy than you can
imagine, and many congregate at the GAK! The GAK also has a fine
German restaurant called the "Edelweis Restaurant" and hosts other
events such as adult and children's dancing groups, card playing
tournaments, music evenings and special dinners.
