All Media Arts students take the following University
Core Curriculum requirements:
English: EN 102 + ID 103
Change and Tradition: ID 201 + ID 202
Physical Education: PE 101 + PE 102 (Club sports, University sports,
and Marching Band substitute for PE 102)
SH101 or SH 198
Div 1 – 3 credits of any division one course
Div 3 – 3 credits of any division three course
Div 4 – 5 credits of any division four course
Div 5 – 3-5 credits of any division five course
One writing intensive course in the Jr. or Sr. year

A Minor or two Concentrated Areas of Study outside of
Media Arts is required for the Media Arts degree.
Students must complete either a minor as selected by the student
or two 12-hour concentrations in two separate disciplines.
126 credit hours are needed to complete the Bachelor
of Arts degrees offered in the Department of Media Arts
Media Arts Portfolio Requirement:
Students admitted to the program are required to maintain a portfolio
of their work. The student’s advisor will assist in the
preparation and will review the portfolio annually. The faculty
will evaluate the portfolio and make any recommendations to the
student.
JCFA Performance Requirements:
As an essential component of a full and varied educational experience
in the arts, undergraduate JCFA majors are expected to attend
performances in their discipline and related areas throughout
their tenure at Butler. To that end, all undergraduate students
in JCFA must complete, in academic year sequence, JC100, JC200,
JC300, and JC400 (Performance Attendance) – non-credit,
P/F courses – during the spring terms of each year of enrollment.
Completion of the course is through verified attendance at approved
performances.
Media Arts
6 per year (3 during the year an internship is accomplished)
Annual distribution: 1-3 in Dance, 1-3 in Theatre, 1-3 in Music
To receive credit for an on-campus event, obtain a Performance
Attendance card from a faculty member or Clowes Hall staff member
prior to the start of the performance. Complete the card and return
it to the person in charge at the conclusion of the performance.
Outside events are limited to those that are closely related in
nature to production in Butler’s Dance, Music, and Theatre
departments.
