How to apply for internship or in-training credit

A Media Arts major can apply for internship (6 credit hours) or in-training (3 credit hours) credit if he or she has senior class standing or has successfully completed at least 25 hours in the Media Arts major. Here's how to apply for internship or in-training credit:

  1. Download the contract (internship or in-training) and evaluation form. Read the contract and note the number of hours required for credit.
  2. Prepare your resume or samples of your work and interview for your internship. (See the The Center for Career Planning & Development to find internship listings and for tips on interviewing for and getting the most out of your internship.)
  3. Fill out the contract and have it signed by the person who will be your internship supervisor.
  4. Return the form to the Media Arts department chair. (Note: You must have a signed contract before you start your internship or you will not receive credit.) After the department chair signs the contract, the appropriate course will be added to your schedule for the semester during which you're completing the internship or in-training (MDA 475 for six credits or MDA 455 for 3 credits).
  5. Document your experience either by keeping a journal or writing a paper about your work during your internship. Make it into an impressive presentation (use a binder, etc.).
  6. Return your evaluation. Upon completion of the internship, have your supervisor fill out the evaluation form and return it to the department chair. Your supervisor should send the form directly to the Media Arts department chair. (Be sure your supervisor sends the completed form before end of semester grades are due! You'll receive an incomplete if it's not sent in on time.)
  7. Bring your journal/portfolio to the department chair's office.
  8. A grade will be turned in based on an evaluation of the portfolio and your site supervisor's recommendation.

Credit Restrictions
Credit for an internship can only be given during the semester of the internship. No credit can be awarded retroactively or post-actively. Credit will only be granted if a signed contract is on file, a portfolio is submitted, and an evaluation form has been received. You may only register for MDA 475 and MDA 455 once each for a total of 9 credits.

Internship Issues
If you experience problems or concerns during you internship, please contact the department chair immediately.
