Discontinuation of E-Reserves (NOTICE)

Faculty use of e-reserves has steadily declined due to the proliferation of scanners, and the ability to self-post documents to Blackboard.  In 2010 we had 17 faculty use e-reserves which is 5% of Butler's total faculty.  In 2011 seven faculty or 2% were using e-reserves.  We are not the first library to experience this phenomenon.  For example, IUPUI recently discontinued its e-reserves service due to low use.

Our e-reserve system is a subscription-based service and costs the library annually.  E-reserves will remain a service for the spring semester in 2012.  However, due to the low usage and other technological options available on campus, we are planning to discontinue our e-reserves service in the summer of 2012.

Please note that we will be working with the Center for Academic Technology (CAT) to arrange for Blackboard training sessions for those instructors who wish to migrate to Blackboard.  Expect more announcements in January 2012 as we get closer to the retirement date.
