Reserve Materials

Print Reserves are materials physically present and set aside for class use. Because an entire class will need to use them, professors put materials on reserve to limit how long they can be checked out. Four-hour reserves are not permitted to leave the library.

To check out an item on Print Reserve, take the citation information provided by your instructor to the Circulation Desk. You can check to see if the item is currently available by clicking the link below and looking up the item.

Please return all Reserve items to the Circulation Desk. For copyright information, please see the Butler University Copyright Policy.

Look Up Print Reserves - To view material that has been placed on reserve for a particular professor, open the library catalog page, http://butler.worldcat.org/ and on the top left hand side, you will see the search button with a pull down menu.  From this menu, you can select "Course Reserves."

From this search page, you may choose to search for individual items or for an entire course.  To see all items your professor has placed on reserve, you can enter their last name, the course title or a keyword from the course title.  Your search will bring up a listing of all courses that match.  Click the underlined title of the course to be taken to a complete list of all items that have been reserved for that course.

If an item is underlined, you may click on it to see if it is currently available to check out.  You will also be able to see what time an item is due back if it is currently out to another user.  If a title is not underlined, this information is not available for that item because it is personally owned material the professor submitted to the library for placement on reserves.
