All faculty members currently employed by Butler University and Emeriti faculty are eligible to check out materials from the Butler University Libraries. Borrowers must present a valid ID card at the Circulation Desk when checking out materials. Overdue Notices and Late Fees

Overdue Notices and Late Fees

Faculty members are not assessed late fees.

Lost Materials

An item will be declared lost if the faculty member has not responded to the two overdue notices sent to them via e-mail. Once an item is declared lost, the Libraries will contact faculty members directly to discuss payment options to replace the item(s). Replacement costs range from $25 - $100 or more per item.

Renewals

For faculty members, items are automatically renewed up to their limit (the Science Library has unlimited renewals; see the above table for limits for Irwin) and an e-mail notification is sent out containing the items' new due date. Once an item has been renewed to its limit, a faculty member will receive two overdue notices via e-mail requesting that the item be returned.

Holds and Recalls

Holds and recalls may be made at the Circulation Desks, by telephone or e-mail:

You can also place a renewal or hold via My Library Card.

Holds

A patron may place an item on hold through the library's online catalog only if the item is currently checked out. When the item is available, the patron will be contacted by email and the item will be held for him/her at the circulation desk under his/her name.

Items found through the use of a missing item form will also be placed on hold for the patron.

Requested new books will also be placed on hold.

Items from the general collection will have a Holds Shelf Life of two weeks; items from the reference and reserve collection will have a Holds Shelf Life of three days.

If your need is immediate please ask that your item be recalled.

Recall Policy

When other patrons place a recall request on items that are checked out, the requested materials will be recalled by the Libraries within 3 to 7 days, depending on the circulation status of the materials.

Returns

After-hour book drops are available at both libraries by the main entrances.
