The Jeanette Siron Pelton Botanical Print Collection
Convolvulus Indicus Pennatus
Created by a gift of Dr. John F. Pelton and the Jeanette Siron
Pelton Memorial Fund, 1969.
The Pelton collection comprises original plates from herbals,
plant histories, and botanical magazines published in the 15th
through the 19th centuries, illustrating technological developments
in early modern botanical, pharmacological, and medical sciences as
well as the history and development of botanical illustration from
woodcuts, to copperplate engravings, to chromolithographs. A few
engraved portraits of botanists are included. A printed guide to
this collection, published in 1986, is available on-site as part of
the "Treasures of Butler University" catalog.
