Political Science internship guidelines
PO 403, 404, 405, 406. Offers the qualified student the opportunity for supervised work experience in a setting pertinent to political science. Prerequisites: permission of the department chairman. (U) (2, 3, 6 or 9)

Exodus Refugee Center Exodus Refugee/Immigration Inc. is like a kaleidoscope - flowing and evolving to meet the needs of the refugees who come to its door. The refugee population served by Exodus since 1982 has changed from its earliest Central American clientele to refugees from the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Bosnia and Africa. The office has continued to grow in an effort to accommodate the evolving refugee population and changes in computer technology. Currently, Exodus includes four full-time staff and five part-time caseworkers with diverse ethnic backgrounds ranging from Hispanic, Ukrainian, Bosnian, Iraqi, Burmese, Albanian, and Somali. The Indianapolis community is home to several public and private colleges and universities, plus a theological school, which provide a constant stream of social work and anthropology interns looking for multicultural experiences through work at the Exodus office. IN Association of School Principals Internships are avaialble in the fall (un-paid) and spring (paid) semesters. Legislative Interns for the IASP perform many duties including but not limited to: Assembling political agenda, attending legislative committee meetings, designing and publishing news articles for public relations and member services, conference planning, preparation and presentation, tracking state and national education legislation, assisting with Student Day at the Legislature, other duties as asked by staff. IN Civil Rights Commission The Indiana Civil Rights Commission enforces the Indiana Civil Rights laws and provides quality education and service to the public in an effort to ensure equal opportunity for all Hoosiers and visitors to the state of Indiana. IN Commission for Higher Education The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is a fourteen-member public body created in 1971 to: Define the educational missions of public colleges and universities; Plan and coordinate Indiana’s state-supported system of post-high school education; Review budget requests from public institutions and the State Student Assistance Commission; Approve or disapprove for public institutions the establishment of new programs or expansion of campuses. IN Department of Environmental Management

Media Services Intern: The intern will assist the Media Relations team leader (MRTL) and the Communications team leader in the day-to-day operations of the office.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: assisting the DP
in researching, writing and creating IDEM's State of the Environment
Report; working with the MRTL to help reporters and the public better
understand complex environmental issues through Fact Sheets; converting
scientific information into easily understandable text for several
office publications aimed at differing audiences; assisting with the
office's involvement in special events, such as the IN State Fair and
the Governor's Conference on the Environment.

Planning & Assessment Intern: An intern is requested to assist with our environmental education projects and other outreach efforts. In addition to working on a variety of projects, including outreach to schools and working on environmental education curricula, the intern would work on organizing conferences and events. The intern will also work with IDEM staff to provide educational assistance to schools and educators around the state. Further, the intern will help coordinate and organize Indiana's 2005 "America Recycles Day" campaign.

Indiana Republican Party

-Political Department interns assist field representatives, voter file maintenance and candidate campaign projects.
- Communications Department interns facilitate communication between the Party and the various forms of statewide media.
-Fundraising Department interns are vital to the operation of the Party, as they assist our primary fundraisers and help plan and execute events.
- Accounting Department interns assist the Party in financial tracking and record-keeping.

IN Senate Democratic Caucus The Senate Democrats hire 12 students. Interns are considered staff members of the Senate Democratic Caucus. Nine interns will be assigned to assist 1-2 senators each and will be required to staff committee hearings, analyze bill content at each step of the legislative process, compile and process bill data, conduct research on pending legislation, attend to constituent casework, and carry out various other duties. In addition, three specialty interns will be assigned to work with our media relations' staff, attorneys, and fiscal analyst.

Indiana Senate Republican Caucus The Senate Republican caucus offers session-long internships to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates. Applicants can be Indiana residents enrolled in higher-education institutions in or out of state, and out-of-state residents attending Indiana colleges or universities. No particular major or concentration is required of applicants. General internships, as well as internships in the fields of journalism, law and finance are available.

Krieg, Devault, LLP Krieg DeVault is a medium-sized diversified law firm representing a wide variety of local, regional and national clients in transactions that span not just the Midwest, but the world. Krieg DeVault's governmental affairs practice has an understanding of the legislative process to successfully advocate issues before Congress, the Indiana General Assembly, and both federal and state regulatory agencies. Marion County Republican Central Committee Interns will be responsible for coordinating volunteer efforts as well as providing campaign support to Republican candidates and elected officials. This includes supervising phone banks, and partnering with the Mitch Daniels campaign staff and the State Republican Party. Interns will interact with candidates and participate on election day, gaining first-hand experience with election laws, campaign strategy, and other political themes. Clerical work may include some minor data entry as well as keeping accurate record of volunteers. In addition, interns will keep a journal of news articles that pertain to Marion County politcs. Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic The Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic (NCLC) is a faith-based, non-profit that offers pro bono legal representation and educational outreach to low-icome and Latino families in the Indianapolis area. Students with an interest in social justice issues, the law and/or community service and not-for-profit work would be particularly well-suited, as well as students with computer skills or proficiency in Spanish. Spirit & Place Festival The Spirit & Place Festival is a celebration of the arts, humanities, and religion. The mission of Spirit & Place is to create opportunities for the public to explore the relationship between community, creativity, and spirituality. The festival results in a series of public arts and humanities programs that take place during early November. Up to 100 of central Indiana's museums, universities, arts groups, civic groups and congregations participate by contributing a program. An intern would practice relationship-building skills, writing, research, program planning and communications. Strategic thinking would be practiced as they help to conceptualize and develop the volunteer program and other aspects of the festival programming.

United Way Intern will help manage recruitment and placement activities, as well as the 2004/05 selection process, plan and implement the opening leadership retreat and following training sessions, communicate with leadership participants and nonprofit agencies to facilitate successful matching and placement of students, assist with evaluation of the YLI program.
