500 Festival

With the Indianapolis 500 race as a stage, the mission of the 500 Festival is to produce events and programs that enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Indiana and their guests. These events and programs, produced largely by volunteers, enhance the image of our city and state by showcasing our cultural, educational and social benefits to the world. Internships are available during the spring semester in the following areas: mini-marathon coordination, parade coordination, public relations, volunteer coordination and youth-oriented programs.

The Children's Museum

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis , a non-profit institution committed to enriching the lives of children, is one of the largest children's museums in the world. The 356,000-square-foot facility houses 10 major galleries that explore the physical and natural sciences, history, world cultures and the arts. The Children's Museum is a place to learn and do. Whenever possible, exhibits are “hands-on” or participatory in nature. The Children's Museum strives to be one of the vital links in the lives of children as it supports their intellectual curiosity and love of learning. The museum, situated on 13 acres of land in Indianapolis , presents thousands of programs and activities each year. Internships are available in almost all departments.

The mission of Indiana 's Division of State Parks and Reservoirs is to manage and interpret our properties' unique natural, wildlife, and cultural resources using principles of multiple use and preservation, while sustaining the integrity of these resources for current and future generations. Dow AgroSciences is one of the largest research-based agricultural companies in North America . We research, develop, manufacture, and market agricultural and specialty products. Our portfolio consists of weed, insect, and plant disease management products, nitrogen stabilizers, plant growth regulators, fumigants, seeds, and industrial non-crop pest management products.

Each year, Dow AgroSciences has positions available for students seeking summer internship opportunities. These opportunities are full-time positions available from May until August. Applicable majors would include: Biology (biochemistry, biotechnology, cell biology, entomology, microbiology, molecular biology, plant pathology, or plant physiology), Chemistry (analytical, organic, or physical), Informatics (bioinformatics or chemical), Molecular modeling, or Any agriculture-related majors

Eiteljorg Museum

The Eiteljorg Museum 's mission is to inspire an appreciation and understanding of the art, history and cultures of the American West and the indigenous peoples of North America . The Eiteljorg Museum collects and preserves Western art and Native American art and cultural objects of the highest quality, and serves the public through engaging exhibitions, educational programs, cultural exchanges, and entertaining special events. Exodus Refugee Center

Exodus Refugee/Immigration Inc. is like a kaleidoscope - flowing and evolving to meet the needs of the refugees who come to its door. The refugee population served by Exodus since 1982 has changed from its earliest Central American clientele to refugees from the Middle East , Southeast Asia , Bosnia and Africa . The office has continued to grow in an effort to accommodate the evolving refugee population and changes in computer technology. Currently, Exodus includes four full-time staff and five part-time caseworkers with diverse ethnic backgrounds ranging from Hispanic, Ukrainian, Bosnian, Iraqi, Burmese, Albanian, and Somali. The Indianapolis community is home to several public and private colleges and universities, plus a theological school, which provide a constant stream of social work and anthropology interns looking for multicultural experiences through work at the Exodus office. Girl Scouts of Hoosier Capitol Council

Girl Scouts of Hoosier Capital Council has had exciting internship opportunities in the past available throughout the year in the areas of Volunteer Services, Programming, Fund Development, Multi-cultural Recruitment, Outreach Services, Camping, and Membership Development.

There are 15 required weeks in the Fall/Winter and Spring semester and 12 weeks in the Summer. Most of their internships pay.

Hook's Museum

The Hook's Discovery & Learning Center , a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Indianapolis , is dedicated to providing important educational life science experiences for all ages. The organization is presently functioning as a "science center without walls" providing programs and demonstrations by 3 means: the Brain Motor-Vator outreach van which delivers hands-on programs at sites chosen by audiences, through distance learning interactive telecasts, and by hosting visits to the small Hook's historic drugstore museum located at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, in Indianapolis . Interns will be exposed to most aspects of museum operations while at the same time attempting to tailor the internship to that individual's interests and goals.

Legislative Interns for the IASP perform many duties including but not limited to: Assembling political agenda, attending legislative committee meetings, designing and publishing news articles for public relations and member services, conference planning, preparation and presentation, tracking state and national education legislation, assisting with Student Day at the Legislature, other duties as asked by staff. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is a fourteen-member public body created in 1971 to: Define the educational missions of public colleges and universities; Plan and coordinate Indiana’s state-supported system of post-high school education; Review budget requests from public institutions and the State Student Assistance Commission; Approve or disapprove for public institutions the establishment of new programs or expansion of campuses. The commission sponsors legislative internships.

Indiana Republican Party

-Political Department interns assist field representatives, voter file maintenance and candidate campaign projects.
- Communications Department interns facilitate communication between the Party and the various forms of statewide media.
-Fundraising Department interns are vital to the operation of the Party, as they assist our primary fundraisers and help plan and execute events.
- Accounting Department interns assist the Party in financial tracking and record-keeping.

IN Senate Democratic Caucus

The Senate Democrats typically hires 12 students. Interns are considered staff members of the Senate Democratic Caucus. Nine interns will be assigned to assist 1-2 senators each and will be required to staff committee hearings, analyze bill content at each step of the legislative process, compile and process bill data, conduct research on pending legislation, attend to constituent casework, and carry out various other duties. In addition, three specialty interns will be assigned to work with our media relations' staff, attorneys, and fiscal analyst.

Indiana Senate Republican Caucus

The Senate Republican caucus offers session-long internships to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates. Applicants can be Indiana residents enrolled in higher-education institutions in or out of state, and out-of-state residents attending Indiana colleges or universities. No particular major or concentration is required of applicants. General internships, as well as internships in the fields of journalism, law and finance are available.

Indianapolis Monthly

The award winning city magazine Indianapolis Monthly is looking for students attending accredited four-year Colleges and Universities to participate in its credit-only internship program. Interns will perform fact-checking duties, conduct research for articles, and potentially write articles for the magazine and/or related publications. Intern will gain valuable career experience and learn the magazine business while working in a pleasant office environment in downtown Indianapolis . Interns are needed for the following areas: Editorial, Promotions, and Special Sections.

Indianapolis Museum of Art

Seventh largest general museum of art in the US . Internships are potentially available within education, curatorial, registration, visitor services, marketing and development/membership departments. Interns will participate in the on-going work of the department to which they are assigned and will be expected to complete a project or some portion of a major project. Individual responsibilities will be determined by the educational background and work experience of the intern, as well as the needs of the department.

Indy Men's Magazine

Regional monthly magazine with target audience of men ages 25-55. We cover general interest topics. Intern will be responsible for some fact-checking, researching, copy editing. (If writing is a strength, there may be opportunities for bylines.) Intern will be exposed to the creative process behind putting out a monthly magazine. Krieg DeVault's governmental affairs practice has an understanding of the legislative process to successfully advocate issues before Congress, the Indiana General Assembly, and both federal and state regulatory agencies. Legislative internships are available during the spring semester.

Marion County Republican Central Committee

Interns will be responsible for coordinating volunteer efforts as well as providing campaign support to Republican candidates and elected officials. This includes supervising phone banks, and partnering with the Mitch Daniels campaign staff and the State Republican Party. Interns will interact with candidates and participate on election day, gaining first-hand experience with election laws, campaign strategy, and other political themes. Clerical work may include some minor data entry as well as keeping accurate record of volunteers. In addition, interns will keep a journal of news articles that pertain to Marion County politics. The Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic (NCLC) is a faith-based, non-profit that offers pro bono legal representation and educational outreach to low-income and Latino families in the Indianapolis area. Students with an interest in social justice issues, the law and/or community service and not-for-profit work would be particularly well-suited, as well as students with computer skills or proficiency in Spanish.

Saint Financial Publishing

Saint Financial Publishing, Inc. publishes themed e-mail newsletters and finance articles for banks online – providing community banks with high-frequency, low-cost means to target profiled customer groups. Saint also offers Web tracking, content management and other Web-based services. The publisher's assistant will collaborate with the publisher/president to execute 1) the weekly activities of online publishing and advertising for clients, and 2) the long-term marketing plan for continued business growth.

Spirit & Place Festival

The Spirit & Place Festival is a celebration of the arts, humanities, and religion. The mission of Spirit & Place is to create opportunities for the public to explore the relationship between community, creativity, and spirituality. The festival results in a series of public arts and humanities programs that take place during early November. Up to 100 of central Indiana 's museums, universities, arts groups, civic groups and congregations participate by contributing a program. An intern would practice relationship-building skills, writing, research, program planning and communications. Strategic thinking would be practiced as they help to conceptualize and develop the volunteer program and other aspects of the festival programming.
