The Wish List

Get a head start on registration for a new semester!

From the time the class schedule is released for a new semester, until the time that your Registration Appointment allows you to register, you can use the Wish List to help plan your schedule.  By using the Wish List you can more easily search for courses, learn of conflicts and unmet prerequisites, and determine if a section is closed.

Using the Wish List gives you more time to plan and adjust your schedule in advance of your registration time. The Wish List is NOT a course reservation system — by using it you are not guaranteed a seat in a class — as always, that depends on course availability at the time of your registration. Keep in mind, you don’t need to use the Wish List if you don’t want to . . . but it will serve you well as you plan your schedule. For more assistance with the Wish List, visit the Registration and Records office, JH133, on the first floor of Jordan Hall, or visit the My Butler help page.

How to use Wish List:

  • Go to my.butler.edu
  • Click Self-Service
  • Click Student Center
  • Click Wish List
  • Click the radio button for appropriate semester and then Continue.

If you know the four-digit course number for the class you would like to add to your wish list, enter the number; if you don’t know the number, look it up using the course search feature and select the section you want. Repeat the process for all the courses you want to place on your Wish List.

Once your Wish List is complete, you must “validate” the selections you have made to insure that the course is open, that you have met the pre-requisites for the course and that no scheduling conflicts exist. To validate your courses click the Select button at the start of the row for every course on the list. Then click Validate Selections. A green check-mark means you are eligible to enroll in the course; a red “x” means there is a problem and you cannot enroll in the course — the explanation will tell you why.

You can validate your Wish List as often as you want, and you should do so more frequently as your registration time approaches. As classes fill, you will need to adjust your Wish List and possibly request permission numbers from the appropriate department.

Remember, the Wish List is NOT a course reservation system — by using it you are not guaranteed a seat in a class — as always, that depends on course availability at the time of your registration.

Once your registration time arrives, you will be able to register for the available courses on your Wish List. To do so, select each course you want and click Add Selected. To add closed courses for which you have received a permission number, exit the Wish List function and use the Enrollment Request function.

After your enrollment time has passed, you don’t need to use the Wish List to make further changes to your schedule. Instead, use the Enrollment Request function to add, drop or swap courses.
