
Michael Swarzman
Michael Swarzman is a lifelong Chicago resident, having
graduated from New Trier High School in 1970, and Butler University
in 1974. After working briefly in manufacturing and materials
management consulting, he began a career in health care, and has
worked in that industry for nearly twenty-five years in a variety
of organizations and positions. Mr. Swarzman received a Masters of
Arts (English) in 1980, and a Masters of Business Administration in
1985, both from Loyola University. He continues to take a variety
of graduate courses in educational theory and community counseling,
with a special interest in conflict resolution in multi-cultural
settings.
Currently, Mr. Swarzman serves as the Regional Vice President of
Business Development with Advocate Health Care, the largest
integrated health system in Illinois, and one of the largest
non-profit health care systems in the United States. In this role,
he works with several Chicago hospitals, and also serves on
specific system initiatives.
Mr. Swarzman is active in a variety of civic organizations,
including Vice Chairman of Hispanocare, Inc., volunteer coach in
his community, and has been recognized by the Indian American
Medical Association and received a Chicago Community Builder award.
Mr. Swarzman is an avid chess enthusiast, and plays for the North
Shore Chess Club. He is also am a faculty member at the University
of Illinois, Chicago campus in the graduate school of public
policy.
Mr. Swarzman is married to the very lovely and talented Barbara
Grier (for twenty three years), and they have two children, Rachel
and Sarah. Rachel lives and attends school in Minneapolis, and
Sarah is a junior at the College of Wooster.
