The Butler Beat and The Bulldog Blitz

The Butler Beat and The Bulldog
Blitz are perfect examples of our hands-on
learning philosophy which has helped Butler alums get jobs in front
of the camera and behind the camera for decades. The Butler Beat is
a weekly news and interview program featuring stories about news
and entertainment on Butler's campus. The Bulldog Blitz is a weekly
sports show featuring stories and interviews with Butler's NCAA
Division One athletes and coaches.
Both television programs are wholly anchored and produced by
Butler sophomores, juniors and seniors. The anchors rotate
each week to ensure that everyone gets that
experience. All of the video on each program is shot and edited by
Butler journalism students and the scripts for each story are
written by Butler journalism students. These students also
participate in weekly story meetings where story ideas are
discussed amongst their peers. Both experiences are designed
to give students an idea of what working in a starter market is
like.
This approach is what has earned Butler a reputation of
graduating students who are immediately ready to start working in
television newsrooms across the country. There is very likely a
Butler alum working at a TV station in a market near you. Having so
many of our journalism graduates working professionally also
enhances the list of job and internship contacts for each of our
students advancing through the ranks.
