New Classes

The Jordan Academy is very excited about the new offerings that we are adding to the Fall Semester. This whole new category of Special Topics classes will contain an array of alternative kinds of dance styles and conditioning techniques.

Fusion

Fusion is a unique blend of Pilates, Yoga, Dance Training and Sports Conditioning that burns calories while transforming the body. It is especially designed for people who need a mind/body class that's about more than just stretching! It includes modifications so everyone can participate, yet offers progressions to challenge the more advanced. Fusion is a strong, dynamic, fluid approach to mind/body classes that encompass a blend of formats tied together for optimal calorie burning results. The "Fusion" style uses dynamic movements that incorporate balance, strength, and functional training while also emphasizing the athleticism found in Pilates, Yoga, Dance, and Sports Conditioning. We want the classes to generate heat in the body through continuous movement and create a sweat while also transforming the body.

What can class members expect? Some examples include:

  • Warrior poses and high lunges - move up and down rather than holding the lunge for several breaths. Or hold the lunge, but then use movement with your upper body (arms and torso).
  • Side planks - add arm circles while holding the position.
  • Chair - move from mountain into chair; continue flowing up and down into the squat. Or hold at the bottom of chair and add swimming arms.
  • Planks - add moving hip extensions.

We are very excited to have Ms. Julie Voris as our Fusion teacher. A Powder Blue Area Promotions Director and Presenter, Ms. Voris is nationally certified through ACE and AFAA. She works at Lifetime Fitness, the Fishers YMCA, and trains the Indiana Pacemates Dance Team. Her Lifetime training includes Core and Strike. In addition, Julie holds several other certifications including Schwinn Indoor Cycling, Group Strength Training, Prenatal Exercise, BOSU Strength, Mat Science, and of course, PiYo™ and Turbo Kick®! Julie was the 2007 Presenter of the Year for Powder Blue Productions, as well as a team captain for Camp Turbo Kick. Julie was part of the first QVC appearance to promote Turbo Jam. She is also an independent BeachBody Coach.

Zumba And Flamenco

Zumba and Flamenco, taught by Erica Dominguez. Ms. Dominguez, well known for her expertise in classical Spanish dance (Flamenco) is also a certified Zumba Instructor. Her Zumba classes at Jordan will incorporate her love of Latin music, Flamenco, rumba and her favorite songs! The goal of these classes is to have fun while learning new dance styles and at the same time getting a great workout. The Flamenco class will focus on classical Flamenco techniques and classical Flamenco choreography.

At the age of eight, Erica studied flamenco under Siudy Quintero, Matilde del Coral "La China", and Azilde Enriquez. She received additional instruction from renowned dancers such as Paloma Marin, Angel Rea, Juaquin Cortez, Mary Españadero, "El Junco" and Escuela Bolera classes by Julia Merino. In 1986, Siudy Quintero invited Erica to join her professional flamenco dance group. She performed throughout Venezuela in venues such as Teatro Terresa Carreño, Teatro Municipal, Teatro Nacional, Teatro de la Opera de Maracay, Sala se Conciertos de la Electricidad de Caracas and the Hotel Tamanaco Inter-Continental, among many others. Two of Erica's most noteworthy performances were the opera "Carmen" and "Asi Baila España en America" a Siudy presentation where Erica performed as a soloist. She was invited to perform the opera "Carmen" in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and performed in private concerts around the city. Erica also played the lead character in "La Danza del Fuego" with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Venezuela under the direction of Aldemaro Romero. Erica has continued her training through private classes with Siudy Garrido and return visits to Venezuela, studying with Azilde Enriquez. She performed a solo in Hotel Melia Caracas and choreographed several shows for the Escuela Romulo Gallego in Venezuela. In 1996 she moved to Indianapolis and currently resides there with her husband Gustavo and their two young boys. She has been a Flamenco instructor and performer since arriving in Indianapolis.
